I had heard of these because "semi-hollow"
and "bass" are my favorite web search key
words, but no one around here stocked it
for a hands-on. So when Daddy's showed a
used one online, I had it transfered to
the local branch.

It's semi-hollow and it's short scale, a
combination I've found to be interesting.
I have two fully hollow 30" basses but I
tend to think of them as having these big
warnings: "Fragile! Handle with Care" in
neon blinking on their foreheads.

I like that it has two humbuckers and one
of them is right against the end of the
neck for bad-ass deep-end bass. Also the
other PU is rather close to it, closer to
the neck than a typical P-bass PU, but it
still adds some of the "bridge PU tone"
to the thunder of the neck PU. The tone
on this ax is deep and majestic, but the
E-string is not overpowering, string-to-
string balance is decent.

There's no battery to worry about.

I like the 2x2 headstock, so that this
bass fits in a guit*r gigbag, and I like
that the whole package is fairly light.

I'm not fond of the typical Epiphone

I have played the Guitar for close to thirty years. My favorite sounds were bands like the moody blues, the doors, the Allman Brothers. Frank Zappa, and many Jazz musicians like Chic Correa(You try spelling it) anyway. I use to get my ass whiped by my older brother in the 1960's because I couldn't keep my hands and feet off the basement full of musical instruments. I played Drums, Keyboards and every guitar his band left in the basement.

I dreamed of owning a WORLD CLASS BASS Guitar. My boss handed me a MUSICIANS FRIEND catalog. I saw the ALLAN WOODY BASE... and My jaw droped to the floor.

I remember seeing ALLAN WOODY play a base like that, and nearly had to change my drawers when I saw that BASS.

I walked straight to the phone and ordered it. When it arrived a UPS driver delivered it, I told him i could kiss him on the lips. JOKINGLY, HE said ..WELL I GET OFF AT NINE.

I was like oh crap.... ANYWAY... The BASS is absolutely amazing. It has a RICKENBACKER BASS sound. If you can remember who played that style bass, Your freaking as old as I am...gotta RUSH

Except the case was not tollerant of the humidity here and the Glue seperated at the bottom slightly.

This Bass was purchased in January "03 from Musician's Friend for $479.99. I purchased this bass for use in live situations. I primarily use Carvins and Fenders for recording.

With this bass, I must admit that it was guitar lust at first sight. My long scale basses that I used to play live were playing havoc with the arthritis in my shoulder and fingers (wonder what caused that?)and an alternative was sought. The short scale (30 Inches) and smaller body were really great features which fit the bill. The wine red finish and gold hardware, combined with attractive white/black/white body binding give the bass an elegant flair. The two mini-humbucking pick-ups give it a rumbling midrange to low end sound, which fit the musical styles I play (traditional and contemporary Christian music). Although the pickups are situated at the mid and neck positions, they can still get some high end response, although don't expect it to sound super bright. The looks, ergonomics, and sound were all contributing factors in this purchase. The price wasn't bad either.

I have no dislikes for this guitar. But please, Epiphone, please make a fretless version without those silly white lines and the rear pickup moved closer to the bridge, O.K. ?
People who play slapping and popping styles probably would not like this guitar because of pickup placement and smaller traditional frets. Short scale bass strings may be hard to get in some places and might require special orders. But that is fine and doesn't present a problem to me.

The bass features a semi-hollow mahogany body with sound cahmbers, which is similar to the "Cat" series of guitars Epiphone makes, minus the f-holes. The neck is maple, has a traditional 2 + 2 head stock, 22 frets, and a rosewood finger board. The tuning gears are Gotoh-style tuners. This leads to a more balanced guitar than the EBO or EB3 basses that have those over-sized headstocks and large tuning gears. The wine red finish is beautiful with no apparent flaws. All hardware is gold and it has traditional Gibson/Epiphone knobs (2-volume, 1 tone). The bass has passive electronics. No hiss or hum detected. Excellent sound, looks, and playing comfort. This bass is very similar in body and neck dimensions to a Hofner Club Bass, but is not a copy of it.

I have not been a real fan of short-scale basses in the past. Most lack really good clear lows, but The Allan Woody Bass has a great low end. This is, without a doubt, the best short scale bass Epiphone has ever made. A lot of thought went in this bass to overcome short scale bass weaknesses. A great bass.

UTILIZATION

What struck me most of the game: its light weight! JB my relative, there's no photo, you can play for hours without feeling. It's rare enough to be on a low signal.
It is a bit dsquilibre to the head but nothing serious
The handle is trs enjoyable, not too wide nor too late I got
I do not like the belt clip attaches to the heel of the neck but it is a matter of habit. The box is large enough, the blow if you your great prvoyez a long strap.
Attention, as its dimensions are "unusual", it is not easy to find a forcment tui rigid adapted

SOUNDS

This low possde sound fairly typical "vintage". It's really the sound I was looking for the style I play (the former pop rock). Roundness, sustain impressive deep bass well. The Tone knob is used primarily to assay the amount of treble (for an attack more or less clear), the bass are all good fawn Submitted.
The diffrence in sound between two microphones is clear enough to be exploitable (personal yet it is all one or all of the other), but do not expect either one extreme sound range extremely broad. It has a sound but it's "the" sound!

This bass is versatile trs. It should wonder for style pop, rock, blues, soul and even reggae (mdiator fingers or so) but not about slapper, it is clearly not made for a. ..

OVERALL OPINION

I've had about a month (used)
I love the ease of playing, its sound, its look gnral.
I dj a Jazz bass deluxe mex, but I was looking for a low pass over less, a little more original without being too flashy.
I will keep the JB for versatility, but I feel that I will mainly use the Rumblekat in my current project because the lower part done everything (sound, look) with the spirit of the group.
For the price (340 with holster), I am not at all, I reselect without problem.

Mine is the series Coren
but beware: those who are in the trade today are manufactured in China, then see if the quality of the instrument is the same (this is doubtful).

UTILIZATION

It is a short-scale, so a fretboard, is love. I like it.

It is trslgre, but then really. Perfect for young ladies and scolioss.

Readily obtained a beautiful sound, but ... one (roughly): the good old roots of its half body, very round, with very little midrange. Mtalleux and slappeurs, go your way ..

SOUNDS

I use it only for my old school reggae repertoire. I mean really old school. For a, it's perfect. Ds i need a bigger sound, it lacks a bit of potato, and I Godin prefers my F4 (see review).

I play on a tantt marshall 60 watt tantt on an Ampeg 115.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had a year and a half.

What I prefer is its maneuverability his lightness of hand. And this very beautiful sound of roots-roots-in-one hard to get (if any) on bass more modern.

I was looking for a short-scale correctly (I think I've found), there is not as a mid-range (going directly from the Bronco to 100 euros Gibson and low luthier), so its kind, it dfend not bad at all, beautiful.

Yes, I would do this choice because I do not see him as a replaceable type. (Mais. .. I mfierais of Chinese that we sell today).
