i have been playing bass for about a year or more now and play in a garage band.Its my third bass guitar. my musical tastes are Metallica, megadeth, slayer, rage against the machine, pantera, van halen, slipknot, ac/cd , alice in chains, foo fighters, iron maiden, soundgarden, black sabbath, sum 41, system of a down, audioslave, u2 , stone sour, mastodon, trivium, rebel meets rebel.

i bought this bass in ireland for 699euro and i bought it because i heard they were a good bass and i seen a lot of bass players playing the fender jazz bass

i like the playability of this bass,its real easy to play notes fast on and to play slap bass on. Also the sound and its look and its really good for playing rock and metal and funk.I also like the maple neck.

what i dont like is the weight of it. thats it

i think this bass was well built will good material and was definitely worth the price.

i recommend this bass to anyone who wants reliabiltity and good sound quality from their bass.

PURCHSED IN ATHENS GREECE AT 350 EUROS THIS BASS WAS THE BEST POSSIBLE SOLUTION AT THIS LEVEL OF PRICE. THE REASON THAT I BOUGHT IT WAS THAT I LIKE DTHE FEELING OF TEH FRETBOARD OF A JAZZ BASS

THE FEELING IS VERY GOOD IN TERMS OF EASY PLAYING.
ALDER BODY AND MAPLE NECK ARE OK SELECTIONS.

THE FEELING IS VERY GOOD IN TERMS OF EASY PLAYING BUT THE SOUND WAS A BIT "DRY".
THE QUALITY OF THE BRIDGE CAN BE ACCEPTABLE BUT ONLY FOR A FEW MONTHS.
THE PICTURE WAS CLEAR : BOTH PICKUPS AND BRIDGE WOULD SOON NEED TO BE UPGRADED.

ANOTHER DRAWBACK WAS THAT THE NECK SUFFERED A LOT FROM CONCAVE ESPECIALLY ON THE NECK JOINT. FRETS NEED TO BE RUBBED TO AVOID BUZZING. I DO NOT KNOW IF A DOUBLE TRUSS ROD WOULD HELP ALL BASSES THAT HAVE THIS QUALITY NECKS.

GOOD QUALITY BUILT BUT THE NEW SET OF FENDER USA JAZZ BASS 62 PICKUPS ADDED VOLUME ATTACK AND BETTER TONE.
AS I SAID BEFORE BRIDGE WAS POOR. SO THE BADASS II BRIDGE MADE THE BASS SOUND MORE PUNCHY.

IN GENERAL THIS BASS AFTER THE UPGRADE SOUNDS LIKE A 90% ORIGINAL USA FENDER JB.

IT IS ALSO A GOOD ALL AROUND SOLUTION FOR MANY MUSIC STYLES.

I bought my Fender Standard Jazz Bass at Morrell's Music in my hometown. I got it for about $420 with the sunburst finish.

I love the tonal options and the playability of the Jazz Bass. This bass is my first bass, but I played my friend's Ibanez for a while before I got the Jazz Bass. I prefer the Fender a lot more than the Ibanez. I play funk, rock, and metal and the Jazz Bass fills all genres.

Really the only dislike that I have is the weight. Jazz Bass can get quite heavy.

This bass is beautifully constructed and is very reliable. I've hit my bass pretty hard and had no problems at all. The quality is great; I paid $420 and its worth every pennie.

The Fender Jazz Bass is probably one of the best basses out there, and I would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a new bass and even those who are looking for a first bass.

I PAID $365.00 BRAND NEW OFF THE RACK (GEORGE'S MUSIC). THE NECK IS AWSOME VERY STRIAGHT. SOME OF THE AMERICAN FENDERS HAD WARPPED AND TWISTED NECKS. I GUESS FROM HANGING THERE SO LONG BECAUSE THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE.

I LOVE THE PLAYABILITY OF THIS BASS AND THE TONE YOU CAN GET OUT OF IT. I REPLACED THE FACTORY PICKUPS WITH 60'S VINTAGE FENDER JAZZ PICKUPS AND MAN! THAT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD! I ALSO PUT A CUSTOM PICK GUARD ON IT. NOW IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A VINTAGE FENDER JAZZ BASS.

THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THIS BASS IS THAT IS DOSEN'T SAY "MADE IN USA" ON IT.
OTHER THAN THAT IT'S GREAT.

TYPICAL FENDER QUALITY. THE FINISH IS FLAWLESS. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING IT FOR MORE THAN A YEAR AND STILL DO HAVE A SCRATCH ON IT. VERY DURABLE!

BOTTOM LINE. MEXICAN FENDER BASSES ARE ALMOST AS GOOD AS THE AMERICAN FENDERS. EXCEPT FOR THE PICKUPS! BUT LETS FACE IT- NOTHING IS BETTER THAN AMERICAN MADE!

I bought my second fender bass at guitar center in La Mesa (San Diego) for exactly $408.00.
I bought this bass because I was looking for a very slim and fast neck, and well, the fender J-bass was it.

The jazz bass is a pretty awesome soundig bass, it's very versatile(considering the pickups passive),playing from slap/pop jazzy style to very hard rock.
The slap/pop sound is why this bass was made for I think, cause the sound is stellar;and this really helped me mix some hard rock with the sassy sound of jazz;well thats sonicly.The neck is beyond fast!is ultra slim (wich I love) and the frets are the perfect size.

What I didn't like about this bass is that the hardware is in fact "standard", very "standard". I'm thinking about buying new tuners and a sweet vintage style bridge that fender makes. And that's all I think.

The construction is pretty simple, without being boring, the paint is amazing(brown sunburst).Everything is smooth and straight and I have no complaints from the finish.

Overall it's a very awesome bass, with the most versatile electronics, beatiful and simple construction and a not to bad price.
BUY IT!

I was given this bass as a Christmas gift in 1990. As a teenager with a no-name little Japanese import bass, I sought something with a bit more style, class, and sound. FOr that - it did the job admirably!

$300 (1990 dollars)

Good sound - when I can get it! (See below) It's about as basic as basses get - which is a good thing. WIth normal amplification, you won't get Kenny-G style jazz-fusion/weather channel bass honk, (which a good thing!) but you get a very standard tone that can be used for most rock or country music. Slap-happy it isn;t.

Bridge pickup yields punch and edge that is good for cutting through heavier rock. . . the neck pickup (which I prefer) of course yields a bit of a mellower tone. They do hum a bit.

I LOVE the neck shape! with moderate sized hands, it plays easily - not hard to play accurately and quickly. It's fairly easy to chord, once you get up around the third or fourth fret.

Classic looks! With a black finish and white pickguard, you can play with any type of band and not look out of place.

The pickups/wiring! I've had this thing for around 12 years. About 6 years ago, some of the wiring got loose - so it's fairly random as to whether the pickups will function. SInce I haven't been in a band lately not much of a problem. For $300, it's almost disposable!

THe sound: yes - it's standard and fairly versatile. But I can;t get the booming, creamy 60's sound of, say, McCartney on "Rain" or Led Zep on "Ramble On." MOst of the blame for this, though, probably lies with the amp.

Fret buzz!
THe A string buzzed horribly when I first picked it out of the shop. THe techs replaced the nut and messed with the truss rod, which seemed to fix the problem, but it seems to recur depending on what strings I'm using.

Bridge Buzz!
Something in the bridge seems to vibrate against the rest of the bridge - highly irritating. Stuffing slips of paper in the gaps fixes the problem, but it's ugly as sin!

- THe pickup wiring is shot - forgiveable after 12 years

- THere's a small crack at the joint of the neck with the body. THis hasn;t produced any ill effects that I am aware of.

- Tuners are fine!
- Bridge is easy to set up and intonate but it buzzes.

Overall finish is fine - it's earned the minor scratches over the years. THen again, I'm not a fan of pristine instruments - character is good!

Not bad for an entry-level instrument!

THe basis of a very good student bass is there: It will intonate well, have a good action, and sound good! Furthermore, the neck is a joy to play. Since most players will want to upgrade if they are serious anyway, this is an excellent value!

THe major issues (for me) are the buzzing annoyances and the wiring.

i orginally owned a squier p-bass special and didnt like it much so one day i went down to mars music and they were having a going out of buisness sale. I decieded that i wanted a new bass i tried out all the basses they had there and this was the one that i liked the most for under $500. it ended up costing around $360

on my old squier the jazz pickup had a real cold sound with no low end this is not so with my new fender it has a great balanced sound, and i really like the slap tone. another reviewer said it didnt have the pop to play slap bass but i think its perfect. some other reviewers have said that it has a lot of hum but i dont know what theyre talking about mine is virtually silent. the pickups are a little weak but that doesnt matter unless you have a crappy amp. the neck is pretty fast. oh yeah and the reviewer that said this bass is too big is a retard.

when i first got it the action was too high for my tastes but that doesnt acually matter because i just lowered it. there is a little bit of fret buzz if the strings are too low though so i had to mess with it alot to get them as low as possible without fretbuzz. also i would have prefered a neck-through or a sculped heel because i do this one solo where i have to play on the 19th fret( we cover rancid- maxwell murders)and its almost impossible to reach.

well the stuff that i mentioned above could be put under this. i have no complaints about the construction ive only had it a month but i feels solid. my old squier was really neck heavy i like how the fender is more body heavy. since it is made in mexico the quality may be a little spotty. some j-basses may be better than others.

with what some of the other reviews said i would recomend trying it out first because some reviewers said that it humed so i would think that the quality varies a little bit. i wouldnt ever order this bass online. this is a great bass i love it.

Purchased at Guitar Center used for $125.00 and it was a steal. (neck was way out, but a tweak adjustment fixed that).

Used as a backup bass.


Growing up in the 60's I always wanted a Fender Bass, but like most of us I didn't have the money. I settled on medicore imports. Well times have changed and I have a real 5 string American Jazz bass, but wanted a reasonably priced 4 string backup. I picked this Mexican Jazz bass and feel it has all the vibe, feel, and playbility of its American cousin. If you are starting out you can't go wrong with one of these. BTW, I made some personal modifications such as setting up the strings through the body and dressing the frets.

I like it all just fine

It is a well made product for someone that has a budget.

If you were blindfolded and played it you wouldn't tell the difference. I know I had friends play it and comment on its sound.

I bought this relatively new Lake Placid Blue Fender Jazz Bass (made in Mexico) on Ebay for about $275. I bought a Jazz Bass because I am a Fender fan, and I wanted the tonal variety this axe provides.

The body is solid and heavy, which gives this bass great sustain. The neck is quick and easy to play.

I had to put about $100 of work into it after I bought it (took it to Mike Lull in Bellevue WA, an absolute master in bass and guitar construction and set-up). I had the neck straightened, action lowered, pots replaced. Once I did this, it played like a dream. The factory pick-ups (two single-coil) buzz somewhat, which is annoying, but when you're playing you don't hear it. And the factory set-up stunk, hence the need for Mike Lull. But after all that, I'm very happy with this bass.

Good construction...like I said, poor set-up.

Overall, for about $375, I now have a great looking, great playing bass. If you are looking for great tonal variety and you don't mind putting a little work (read: $$) into your purchase, you won't be disappointed by this classic.

Instrument made in Mexico. The bridge is simple, the strings do not cross the body. 1 volume knob for each pickup and a general tone. The handle is a happy end is for the guitarist who I am. As against the coating finish of the handle is rotten because of the varnish peeling head, otherwise I'm amazed by finishing top of the handle that is, except the varnish on the head. Otherwise it tends to sometimes make a noise "Buzzzzzzz" pretty bad ...

UTILIZATION

The handle is nice, access to acute is easy, it is an instrument balanced against the microphones sometimes buzzent a bit and it's painful when trying to save ... In fact I bought this bass for my models, and for that I am the guitarist she is perfectly fine. The sound is a little confusing to me, but again, it happens to suit me because it is not my first instrument. on the other hand nothing to do with a really good Fender Jazz Bass families, here we are rather on the low end.

SOUNDS

Yes, well see above is quite correct, for my last use. The bass is mostly connected to my table so I too can not enlighten you on its sound on a pure bass amp ...

OVERALL OPINION

I do not know that bass player is, but maybe it's a pretty serious instrument for the price, I tried a Squier Precision Bass, which was far below, and who had no such reinforcement handle. This bass is not expensive and should in my opinion for beginners and multi-instrumentalist who need a low to expensive for their models. I acquired this bass again if it was a remake.

UTILIZATION

Oulala the handle is it enjoyable ... YES! Okay this is my Premire "real" bass, APRS three years of practice (and weight of bulbs) and a "Cimar" about 1980 drgle but the rglage cost more than the machine, we will not look any further ... Anyway the game on the Jazz Bass is a rgal, as the fingers that mdiator.
Easy Access in acute, ergonomics ... excellent ... j'arrte compliments? will, it is a bit heavy for my shoulders frles, but the sound has a price! I am certainly PRTA pay!
And we get a good sound easy: just a background sound that kills Jazz Bass, prcis supported.

SOUNDS

Sounds easy to obtain: we play with the volume of two microphones, the "tone", the amplifier and equalizer hop sound that fits the song! Uh yes it is quite suitable to my style of music, know as much as reggae or ska chanson francaise, so all is well. Amp: Hartke A70 or TKO115 Peavey was a fat as prcis, overuse of the "tone"!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a month now (newbie!), I like it for its color (hihi), its unique sound but universal, I tried the low-end but never above the level when compared you understand ... but I am happy with my purchase trs, compared qualitprix unbeatable (511 th in *****...). The exprience and future trials of other models can be change that opinion, but until I rgale, and look forward to my first concerts with her in short time)!

UTILIZATION

Strong point for me HANDLE! Super great but then I find enjoyable. I just love. Access in acute is relatively good. nothing special, but it may well happen until dernires notes. Fawn gnrale, the bass is really heavy I think .. It's a bit agaant after an hour or two, may be because I have no-trs big shoulders, but I doubt if even! When we sat cheek, we see a little of quilibrage default, the bass does not always on the legs .. Let's be clear, ct is seen finishing a ten coats of varnish have t passes not fawn trs professional, but at nothing to n'elve sound quality of the machine! The sustain is good trs. In short, if you close your eyes and what we INTERESTED most is the sound of music ... I think a consideration not? and although in this case I forget all these dtails not glorious ... Rglage trs bridge + neck sound basic but effective.

SOUNDS

So this ct .. In dpart I left the microphones mxicains standards. You could hear the specter of a jazz bass but not quite c'tait a.. So I opt for Dimarzio DP123, and I do not regret at all, but even so I'm glad everything is! The bass sounds great as a result, TRS mdiums beautiful, well balance with acute that are slamming the limit, not quite. And the beautiful part, with this low, now is the serious frquences "growl", which grumble a bit, I love it! I get sounds warm, soft type blues, or anything more delightful to slamming funk and slap. But above everything I love about this bass is the trs beautiful captivating rponse of mdiums that really feel like live sound. I play the jazz bass changes (chang original easel against a Hipshot A plastic nut replaced by brass, DiMarzio, potentiomtres 1K) Eden Nemesis N12S on a Boss GEB-7, rings!
O Great for the price I had was that 300 euros ... gniale!

OVERALL OPINION

I use this bass for the past 1 year and a half. For now I have no intention whatsoever of me Sparer! Really love the spectrum of mdiums and sustain on this bass! Prior to this I used a low RBX760A Yamaha, which sounded great for the mid-range, but not as good as this bass. In the same Manir I jou on Samick bass, not really dynamic. And I won! Report qualitprix great because I bought it in time ... I would say against the other as if they were not buying it brand new at around 700 euros ... I will judge the relative quality Price plutt way as to get the beautiful sound I have today, yet I would have had to change back my dpenser + bridge pickups (which say it is bad plutt) + mcaniques that do not take much note nut + + potentiomtres.

I'm a guitar player, and I noodle on the bass from time to time. I've always loved the classic look of the Fender Jazz Bass, and because of the thick strings, basses are more often than not, inherently resonant. I thought I'd give one of these basses a shot, and it suits my needs just fine.

My bass has an alder body, comfortable C neck, and maple neck and board, with 2 vol knobs, one tone, 20 frets, a hardtail bridge, and 2 pickups.

UTILIZATION

My bass is very heavy compared to other Jazz basses, and I think this contributes to the tone in a positive way. The knobs feel a touch loose, other than that, this bass feels very solid and well put together. The neck is comfortable, and it's not too thick, which is a pet peeve of mine with guitar necks.

SOUNDS

I'm not a flashy bass player by any means, and I tend to go for a very punchy, aggressive bass tone ala Doug Pinnick and Glenn Hughes. This bass delivers in spades for that, and the weight of it gives my tone mass. It definitely can move some air! The neck pickup can get muddy VERY easily on a bass, but I find that it is pretty clear when I EQ my bridge to get my ideal tone.

OVERALL OPINION

I would definitely recommend this bass for the price, as it's a nice mid priced bass with all the features you need to play. Since buying my bass, I've played others in it's price range that felt better, and even more solid, but unfortunately they didn't have the look of a Jazz bass, and although tone is very important to me, I like the traditional aesthetic of my bass.

As the name suggests this is a Mexican.
It has 20 frets and 2 micro Jazz standard type.
An easel everything from classic but effective.
The settings are 2 volume and 1 tone. Simplicity itself.
I put 9 / 10 for 1 to 2 more frets would not have Deplus for some solo ...

UTILIZATION

It's a jazz bass, there is therefore made in the massive body fender.
Unlike bass, which usually respond nag "any way access to it is crazy that acute low" I would engage in loving in the high I walk very often the last boxes and so good my fingers without any problems arise everywhere.
Its weight does not seem to me too because many left.
The simplicity of the setting allows her to find the search very easy, from the chattering at the round ...
I see no reason not to 10/10 on this point ... So 10 ^ ^

SOUNDS

My main style is pop / rock, but sometimes I play songs more funky or downright hard!

A round, warm sound and slamming metal really is a very versatile bass while remaining typed. It has a character that is probably due to its solid appearance, but it hides a lady who know how to reach ...
Finger sound is very good, it's downright slap in the foot ...
I use a 20W Ibanez at home (neighbor forces) or by repeating kickback15 Hartke 120W. Sometimes it goes through my multi effects pedal, but I must admit that the best sound is produced nature, without artifice or effects!

Despite the fact they know to be versatile, I think it deserves 10.

OVERALL OPINION

I use a full-time for 2 months and I'm delighted.
It is not my first bass and it's an understatement to say that I am a very hard choice before you buy. I tested over a low 10aine before this one (in price ranges from 200 to 1000 €) and is one that caught my attention the most with its warm sound.

The value for money is very good and although purists will say that Mexico will never equal one U.S. why pay three times as much for a bass that does not sound three times better
With the experience I would definitely remake that choice, unless you have a € 1000 over a slam and I'm still not certain that U.S. would have fulfilled my expectations ... I think it would be better to buy a second bass in a complementary register (as a modern bass warwick or ibanez)
Nothing is ever perfect I refuse to put a note in 10/10 but given the overall good instrument that I'm pretty unhappy about not having to "only" 9 ...

UTILIZATION

The handle is a rgal thanks in varnish satinbr /> Access in acute possdant is good but a bass luthier in the top of this, I would say it is perfectible
Ergonomics is plutt good, it does not sting the nose, but it tends to drag the thigh in a sitting position because of the varnish if you wear a jean nine such
For sound, it's a jazz bass ... ie: you connect and sounds no matter what.

SOUNDS

Apart from the sounds of double bass and fretless, it can do everything, hh ...
I tested it by running, outdoors on an Ampeg 15 "Portaflex in rpeter on various amps, live sound with a DI EBS, etc ... Nothing wrong.
Sounds obtained as we suspect, will Jaco Marcus and everything in between ...

Obviously, we can always do more, and there will be sounds that we can not have (musicman, Rickenbaker, etc ...) but it's not a bad bass dj do it all ...

OVERALL OPINION

I for a month in low replacement for a mini-run and it does its job properly.
I love her and you plug ct rings and satin varnish the handle!
I tried a bunch of basses, some much better, some not so good ...
The quality-price ratio honnte but no more, especially since brands like Cort offer MODELS worthy of high prices indcents violin ...

The good:
+ Handle satinbr /> + two microphones "silent" duo and comfortable in almost any style
The minimalist electronic + (part of precision, it is hardly easy) SONC no battery in the lower prvoir as active on a branch and sounds: P
+ Form, indmodable!
Ngatifs points:
- Screws mcaniques n'taient not all tight purchase
- RULES silent action too high for games that require a bit of Dextre (Młoda fast gaming agreements, etc ...)
- Mine is a MODEL, but left the bridge rgl silent for a right-handed (factory I think). Rsultat: all the notes sounded hollow on the strings R and del Sol in the 12th box. Just reverse the rglage the bridges but it is not a novice forcment empty and for that price, I find a limit. Fender tend to be complacent I think ...
- No strap (same basis) provided
- I had 2 or 3 cr composed of low and another 24 cases for ncessitaient THEME mlodiques but can not reproduce on it, I feel for once really the 'strait with these 20 cases (but hey you know when you buy so it's not really a point ngatif, and then our job is primarily to ensure the grves, right? Although ...)
- 2 volume knobs, so have to buy a volume pedals to grate on the sound scne for bland, so the more weight in the bag A test: 1 volume, 1 balance, a tone, knowing that you will not max level microphones with a balance in the center ...
- The Tone knob of work I find funny ... It does Ragit only 10% of the last race ... Rsultat there are only two sounds: bright or tuft, but nothing in between.
- The bridge base has no slots for bridges that do not make stable trs (some have had bad exprience to see them go back a little too hard slapper, if I remember correctly !)
- The string of R and G are clearly DCAL compared to plots of microphones, which affects lgrement on sound and can not be changed unless you change to an adjustable easel spacing of the strings in ...
- As we suspect may be, if we decrease the volume of one of two microphones (even slightly), they capture the surrounding noise, which is very stringent and limits the possibilities sound recording or even some scnes as insulation. For this reason, I recommend changing the pickups for noiseless. on the other hand, when two pickups are loud, they are a "silence" absolute
- No thumb rest between the two microphones, which is a bit dstabilisant potentially disabling when just MODELS ncessitant diffrent positions (I think we can get them-this words)
- A lightweight wolf-tone (a note that appears much stronger than others and that is close to a feedback but in grves) to the 12th fret on the E string, but like lots of bass finally

Here I think I have not forgotten ... At worst, I will make an edit!

And remember: "A groove juice a day Keeps the doctor away"

The bridge is of very poor quality, it goes wrong all the time, and the strings are offset relative to the microphones go !!!!!
The pickups are not bad, you get a little cool.
The electronics are also of poor quality. There are important pests when using microphones one by one.
The knobs are bad, the volume can be adjusted as lorqui one has turned the knob to 350 degrees. So no intermediary between high volume / low.
It's a jazz bass neck, it is really exeptionel (although the base I do not like the sleeves end, but it goes really well, thanks to its rounded)

Its level, a small micro customage is welcome, but basically it sounds not bad. By adding a Fender U.S. kit, it sounds serious, nothing to say.

SOUNDS

All positions are exploitable, depending on the style desired. I play as much as Slap with two microphones thoroughly, if not to pick on the mic only serious, it sounds good rock! Not only made for the Jazz this small!
I also have a Active Jazz Bass Mex, obviously there is even better, we can sculpt the sound etc. ... But it's a bit more expensive!

OVERALL OPINION

After 3 / 4 years of using nothing wrong. She did not move (yet happy) and she always does well it should. Frankly nothing to say about the appearance Mexico. It is not on it as well as a large U.S., but frankly the U.S. are low paid I find expensive (you pay the brand name "Fender U.S.", whatever may be said ...). The quality / price ratio is 10 times better vraimant with mex (I said that I also have a Stratocaster and Telecaster, always Mex), there's nothing else to add!
If you have big bucks, do not take the U.S. (either Fender or Gibson or other) - Go to a luthier! You'll better for the same price or even (good) quality than the U.S. cheaper! If like me you do not want to ruin a single instrument (after improving quit at the micro level and acastillages ... etc) Buy the Mex!! I do it again 10 times this choice!

UTILIZATION

Seems like a very well built instrument but it's hard to tell because this bass received rather abused by the previous owner. Despite being treated badly everything worked correctly and was quite easy to intonate. The neck is a nice example of a slim jazz bass neck profile. It's easy to play for prolonged periods of time without hand fatigue building up in the fretting hand. This is the heaviest of my basses and I find it can make my shoulder to ache after an hour or so of playing using an average thickness un-padded strap.



SOUNDS

I use this with my Ashdown MAG-300 combo amplifier and find it hard to make this bass to sound bad. This bass has a great punchy sound with that wonderful mid-heavy grind that I love from jazz basses. I use this bass predominantly in a Ska-punk band and it fits in perfectly, it cuts through the mix without being to in your face. The main problem sound wise with the bass is the amount of noise produced by the pick-ups which is a common problem but it doesn't provide me enough problem with my rig to warrant changing the pick-ups to aftermarket noiseless ones.



OVERALL OPINION

Overall I think this is a great bass, I got it for a very good deal in a trade for a Digitech Whammy 4 effects pedal due to the cosmetic damage to the body of the bass by the previous owner. I'd be happy to buy one of these new though for the asking price they're quality instruments although I can't see myself buying a new bass for a while.

My favorite thing is the sound of this bass, it's perfect for the style of music I play. My main problems with this bass are all aesthetic based and most of which caused by the previous owner one thing that could be improved is an upgrade to noiseless pick-ups.

Fender's Mexican JazzBass (Standard Series) is an electric bass guitar that I've got experience using in the recording studio and for practicing. The bass player that I'm currently playing with has one of these, so I play it a lot and have recorded it a number of times. Don't let the Mexican implications fool you, as this is a great instrument. The bass has two single coil, bi-pole pick ups, with standard tone and volume knobs. I don't know what kinds of materials this bass is made out of...

UTILIZATION

Playing the Fender Mexican Jazz Bass is really easy, as it's got a really slim neck. It feels good on the fingers pretty consistently, and I've always found getting a good sound to be fairly simple as well. Even so, there are a good amount of differing tones you can get even just between the two pick ups. The bass is about average in terms of weight and size.

SOUNDS

The sound of the Fender Mexican Jazz Bass is round and full and is pretty much the ideal tone for a bass guitar, only being surpassed by a better built American Jazz Bass. For recording I'll usually take a direct signal as well as an amp'd sound, but it all starts with the bass. The last record that I did with the Fender Mexican Jazz Bass, I also used an American P Bass for some songs, and ended up like the Mexican Jazz Bass more. This could just be a preference thing between Jazz and P Basses, but it's still worth noting. I believe that Jazz Basses in general are the best available basses.

OVERALL OPINION

If you're a bass player on any level except for maybe a high end professional, the Fender Mexican Jazz Bass is a great bass to have. It's got a superb sound and excellent feel, and since it was made in Mexico, it has a really small price tag. Don't get me wrong, if you can afford an American Jazz Bass, you should absolutely spend the extra money as they are better basses, but if you can't afford one, the Mexican Jazz Bass is a very fine substitute. Coming from the masters in guitars in Fender, the Mexican Jazz Bass is probably the best bang for your buck that you'll find in a bass guitar....
