Gibson BFG Bass

(Review written shortly after purchase. As usual, I will publish the time.)

34 inch passive bass guitar made in the USA in 2010. (No longer manufactured)
Down version of the Gibson Les Paul BFG.

Incorporates the features of any Les Paul: mahogany body with maple top, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard. Nitro-cellulose lacquer. Even the stop tailpiece and bar are true copies of the version guitar, while Gibson uses usual dreadful ropers its low specific.
White plastic nut (while everything else is black ...) a little cheap but perfectly realized.
Gotoh tuners oil bath. Head "modern", I admit that I would have preferred a more head reminding those versions guitar.

The mindset is "BFG" for "Barely Finished Guitar" Guitar barely finished.
Table set shots chisels (as if she had not spent polishing), no binding, no frame around the microphones ... The first releases did not cover this side truss to strengthen "roots".

Given its look, it is not intended to pop music.

Electronics: 3 microphones "Les Paul Bass Pickups", 3 volumes and a tone. The switch is actually a kill-switch. Plates electronics (rear) are transparent.
Overall finish very correct, but in my opinion it should be even better given the price of the instrument.
Note impeccable settings (action properly adjusted, perfect accuracy), which is not always the case for purchase.
Supplied in leatherette pouch stamped Gibson (very well done), identity papers, instructions, and strings Gibson 45-105.
Note though that I had to go to the Gibson website to learn most of its features.

UTILIZATION

Low well balanced, which is very rare for such low Les Paul. Its weight is probably the cause: It is 5.3 kgs (for comparison, my Ibanez ATK 5 string is 4.5kgs). There is a chance nine cavities in the body for ease!

Round handle well and strong. My left hand found the sensations of the Les Paul guitar versions, and my right hand comes to rest on the tailpiece I am familiar ground!

No markings on the keys (there on the edge), which does not bother me when I asked the question.

Regarding the game, this calls for more play bass with a pick nag in a hard rock band only adipose acrobatics jazzy muted. But that, I think we can guess the picture ... I will not talk versatility, obviously this is not its purpose!

SOUNDS

I will edit this when I have played this bass in real conditions: In group and volume together.

My first impressions "at home"
Three microphones offer sound quite varied corresponding to Rock. The combinations are numerous. I found him a little resemblance with sound Music Man (middle pickup combination + handle)

The electronics design is pretty weird. Put a micro volume has the advantage of being able to play a very large number of combinations, but why put the potentiometers "out of order"? Looking knobs in playing position, nearest the bridge controls the micro ... while the central control knob that of the central ... handle. In short, confusing.
As for Kill switch (chrome while all hardware is black, bravo guys ...) it will not help me, even create a few moments of panic in the heat of the action.

OVERALL OPINION

I have always been a fan of the Gibson Les Paul. Chance of my life as a musician I was directed to the bass.
I was looking for a Les Paul bass guy, but all I have disappointed often unbalanced (they lean towards the head and I hate playing holding the handle) and then its rotten or questionable proportions. In addition, the low finish past Gibson that I tested was poor due to their high price. I have unfortunately not been able to test the Les Paul Triumph, which remains to this day my Holy Grail.
I tested this store low and was surprised by its balance. Clearly therefore the weight is at the origin.
I was seduced by the profile of the handle and the sounds.
Thus, despite its looks very special, I fell for it, and I think not having to regret it.

The feature I like the most? It's irrational, but when I grabbed him, I found my thrill young guitarists ready to kill the whole earth and to the Marshall 11!

The feature I like the least? The layout of the stupid knobs. And I would have preferred a look "natural wood", but obviously it was not mind the design.

All in all, it has real qualities. Why production was it so short?
