Published on 08/03/01 at 15:00I got this a couple of years ago from American Musical Supply. I paid cash. I was looking for a cheap bass and chose this sight unseen. None available locally.
The sound is ok. No complaints at all. Nothing interstellar, but the combo p and jazz bass pickups are quiet, fairly strong, and reasonably toneful.
Better than I expected.. no noise to speak of.
The pots are good, the tuners are good, it's light, the finish is pretty well done.
overall, I'm quite happy with it.
the hardware is black, but many of the parts are just painted black.
the paint comes off pretty easy.
the pickup screws for height adjustment are kinda crappy.. real tight.. and I had to put foam rubber beneath them or the pickup would flop around unless they were set too deeply into the body.
the neck feels a bit funky to me. I like fast necks..slim..think jazz bass. and this one feels 'big' in my hands.
Overall very good. I've had it a couple of years and it's not gotten any worse..neck is straight, fretwork is good.
I wouldn't mind putting a set of dimarzios in for the p bass pickup.. or adding a better bridge.
Washburn, Dean, and this bass were all about the same price.. and had basically the same features except..
this one has the 24 fret neck and the two pickup combo.
If I were buying it again, I'd ask for the chrome hardware.
I use it for recording and with my presonus blue tube preamp between it and the tascam I can make a lot of good sounds with it.
If you're looking for an inexpensive bass this should be a consideration.
