MGR/Adam Spencer « Schecter Diamond Series Deluxe 4 »
Published on 04/17/02 at 15:00I aquired this bass from a local music shop that was introducing a new line of equipment and wanted to move the old stock out. I was in the market for a new sound. I own a 78 Fender Precision that I purchased new, at this time I was looking for a new sound in a not-so-traditional look with modern electronics. I live in Alaska and the price of $400 was very inviting. I stopped in the store once a week to play it on different amp/speaker combinations. Finally, the day came where I could take no more teasing and purchased the unit.
First of all, it was aesthetically pleasing. The light weight was a plus, but also a concern for how it would sound. I found that sound was not a problem. The smaller size made it a joy to sling around.
I liked the traditional layout of the headstock and tuning pegs.
I did not like the pan control. It seems to loose volume when manipulated to the extreme forward position. I had to make a small adjustment to both the truss rod and the bridge to get a small buzz out of the G string. The problem was cured. The tuning peg posts were loose. A quick turn of the wrench cured that.
Overall quality is impressive for the easy price. The finish (walnut) exposes the wood grain (basswood)without being loud. The bridge reminded me of the Badass II that I installed on my P-bass which works wonderfully. The six bolts to attach the neck is sure. The sound/sustain is good for such a light insrument. The layout of the fretboard is easy for my size of hand. The forward pickup makes a great thumb rest.
I really like this instrument. The light weight along with the thick sound made it a good choice for what I was looking for. The price made it even more inviting. Good product, Schecter.
