« Yamaha TRB 4P Neck Thru »
Published on 12/22/03 at 15:00Purchased from ebay for 420.00. Bought it because it is the first series made in Japan which are nicer than the second series Korean made. Heard many great reviews about the TRB and wanted to see for myself.
A wide variety of tones can come out of this bass. Able to go from a thick piezo acoustic sound to a much more aggressive sound. I play many styles of music; jazz, blues, hard rock, contemporary, and this bass is versatile enough to cover most of them.
Too much piezo and high freq. can suck the bottom end out way to quick. I believe Yamaha uses concentric pots for the mid and highs. Would like a little more growl from the pickups, it is more of a meow.
I am unimpressed with the cheap plastic knobs that these basses came with. Give me a break, these were Yamaha's top of the line models with toy knobs put on them.
Very sturdy bass. 5 piece thru neck construction with quite a bit of sustain. The body has a nice spector type contour on the backside with a red black sunburst throughout. Strap pegs diameter is larger than average which is nice, unfortunately, Yamaha did not use a standard size screw which makes changing to strap locks more complicated than it should be
Bottom Line:
For the price I paid for this bass, it is a hell of a deal. Would definitely buy another one if this one was stolen. The versatility of this bass is probably the most attractive thing about it.
