UTILIZATION
Initially, its use is not easy: you get lost quickly on the wealth of available settings. But after a while, it becomes more intuitive. The potentiometers used for the most basic settings are very useful. However, if you want a very particular sound, we must go into the details of the pedal, which is tedious, always makes significant number of adjustments offered by the GT-6.
I especially appreciated being able assigned the expression pedal (and footswitch) and the pedal named "Control" in any setting: the distortion can be switched via footswitch and expression pedal varying the gain with it, or else change the delay time of delay with the footswitch and intensify the chorus with the pedal. You really feel that we can experiment with lots of stuff with this pedal.
The effects are divided into several modules: a module dedicated to preamps, one for distortion, one for the delays, one for chorus, one for the reverb, a man named "FX1" and one on behalf of "FX2". "FX1" includes some effects such as compressor, limiter, a generator of feedback, while "FX2" contains a simulation of acoustic guitar, a microphone simulator (De microwave single humbucker or vice versa, for example) etc ... The problem with these two modules is that they can be combined to each other, but you can not activate one effect at a time in each module: It is impossible to combine a compressor generator with a feedback ... Too bad ...
The manual is very detailed, it explains in detail how his personal GT-6 and what each setting ... Very complete, read in full and to keep at hand in case ...
8 / 10 because the use must be very thorough to get sound that is desired and for not being able to use 2 effects FX1 (or FX2) simultaneously.
SOUND QUALITY
I play mostly metal in all forms, from Machine Head Dream Theater through Satriani.
This pedal can be good for little that one would really look.
Personally I use with the method of "4 wires" and my Peavey Triple XXX.
I plug my preamp in "Overdrive" the GT-6 and rule on "external". My pre-amp is then used as a distortion pedal ... Although specific practice, and it allows me to push my amp too without being noisy, and this, by setting the output volume of the pedal to the minimum. I draw more than respectable results. Furthermore, as one can set the chaining effect, I placed my pre-amp (and other effects) that I want in my config '.
The amp models are good without being exceptional: I do not think the resemblance to the supposedly modeled amps is striking. It is well recognized BOSS sound: it sounds a bit digital distos in, unless they spend hours to set up a preset again, it is not to do ... While the sounds may be clear in a few sublime time.
The effects are excellent, though some are, I think, not very helpful (Ring Modulator, Slicer, etc. ...) but all that contribut to make this pedal a complete product. More needs to buy a pedal to 100 € to only use 30 seconds in a component; Everything is inside, where it would have required.
Like all amp simulations, the GT-6 finds all his qualities when plugged into a PA system or power amp + speaker. Indeed, while offering several "formats" of output, it is in these two configurations that I managed to get a good result, especially plugged into amplifiers (the lamp warms the sound a bit and it gives more dynamic, same for the baffle, which gives more body to the sound).
8 / 10 because the distortions are not great.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for almost a year, and I have not toured its full potential as it is ... Being able to connect to another controller (2nd expression pedal among others ...) can really sculpt sound ... minting a few hours of headaches with the machine. One senses the impression that this pedal is for the exploration of sound is very full parameter settings.
The amp models are pretty fair, this pedal will agree very well with someone who already uses a distortion (amp, pedals or other) and looking for a good multi-effects pedal. Indeed, the effect is of excellent quality, we recognize the brand Boss easily: it sounds very clean, a bit too much for some.
I find the value for money nice, but the distal (pedal and amp simulation) would contribute to improved.
I also play on a POD XT and these two machines are very different: You have to see the POD XT as an amp simulator (with effect bof bof) and see the GT-6 as a multi-effects (with simulation bof bof).
9 / 10 as very comprehensive and "evolution", excellent clean sounds, effects of very high quality
