I wanted a multitrack sound card and the fact that the Saffire Pro 40 features a preamp per me really kicked. I used Reaper to test it under windows, but I mostly use Linux with ardour3/cadence and frankly, it is a killer!
Well, we would have preferred usb to firewire, but at this price, do not dream!
I recorded an EP with full
UTILIZATION
The linux drivers are used with FFADO and via ffado-mixer, you can route the signal from the card a little as you want (and even more with the mix control of Focusrite Saffire under windows) I've been running this beast with mk II OctoPre ADAT and I could save carefree 16 simultaneous tracks. About 6 ms latency ... a treat!
GETTING STARTED
to install it, uh ... I plugged it, I started my linux, I tested quickly if the system saw with ffado-dbus-server and then I started ardor and hours ... that's it!
For the doc, there is a very good tutorial on linux linuxmao (dot) fr
OVERALL OPINION
I use it since 2011 and I tried presonus whose signal / noise ratio was infernal, a breath when you push a little knob! Here, no worries!
