I bought the Firewire 410 and Firewire mainly for problem solving latency of USB. I gave an Edirol UA-5, unbearable because of the USB (too frequent unannounced disconnections) and the prospect of having one box for audio and midi.
The side laptop is fine, but as in other reviews data above, I find that for the laptop is a bit cheap, I do not give time to knobs ...
I work with DP 3.11, Peak TDM and Kontact 2.5 on ibook G3 / 600, 640 RAM, and OS 9.2.2. and that's where the trouble begins ...
Otherwise, in Characteristics theoretical concern, it is rather tempting.
UTILIZATION
Installation is no problem, almost. It installs, but the Finder (OS 9) does not recognize the Firewire 410, and from there a lot of problems arise.
In fact, on my config, the firewire 410 only works with any software, except Digital Performer, which tells me that the drivers are "poorly written". Even in English, it's pretty explicit. E train that ...
It's hard to put a note, since it installs but it does not work.
I have not tested for MIDI, but be aware, for users who include DP, it's working with WHO, and not with FreeMIDI ...
