I was looking for an audio interface equipped with many microphone inputs with pre amps good, good converters, portable and usable with a laptop so light;
I do a lot of concerts and recording j'ean'm tired of lugging tons of equipment.
I use a recently Toshiba Satellite with a Pentium Centrino processor running at 1.7 MHz and an external hard drive Maxtor 160 GB
UTILIZATION
There is no easier, the drivers are very stable and my favorite software: Samplitude and Cubase LE (excellent version after SX1 comes with the Firepod) easily recognize all the inputs and outputs whether wdm or asio . (EMU should take a leaf)
The manual is fairly brief, but it is not too annoying given the simplicity of operation of the interface.
GETTING STARTED
The eight-track recording pass without difficulty, but it depends on the power of the computer.
The clock is also very stable which contributes to the overall quality of the product.
OVERALL OPINION
The audio quality is excellent. The pre amps and converters seem beyond reproach, I would have liked a little more gain to use ribbon mics but hey, we can not have everything at that price. In any case the quality is greater than what can be done with some audio interfaces such as EMU or Motu 828 MKII and even some digital consoles.
Adjusting the input gain is not very easy because there is no bar graph but simply a red LED that lights when saturation it is necessary to make a very careful balance before you start recording .
Finally a simple audio interface, which does not take a gas plant and achieves a sound quality that borders on excellence. Bonus offers Presonus Cubase LE, which can already work well.
I use the Firepod for four months and I am delighted at the point of looking forward that we can couple two to buy another and be able to record 16 tracks in a direct competitive prices.
