Firewire audio interface with minimalist design but putting an emphasis on quality.

UTILIZATION

I use it at home with Windows 7 and cubase 5
No audible latency with VSTis and audio.

GETTING STARTED

Extremely easy installation, drivers can be downloaded from the TC site in a wink of an eye.
Connect it and it works.

The TC Near application is very intuitive and nice-looking.

OVERALL OPINION

I was looking for a firewire interface to replace my alesis io|14 that started to show signs of fatigue...and I found it!
Bye-bye to untimely dropouts and crackling pots and connections...

This TC is clean, solid and WHAT A SOUND it has!!! It's faithful to the brand's image, this interface is a model of transparency, especially in this price range.
The flip side is that now I can hear all the defects...

Go get yours without thinking it twice.

I have a high-end hi-fi system and several hundred vinyls. I was looking for something to digitize some of them with the maximum possible quality.
Having a BMC-2 of the same brand, I decided to get the Konnekt 6 after reading opinions about it.
As an aspiring musician, I intend to also use it to record piano, guitar, vocals, but that wasn't what motivated my purchase in the first place.

It is connected to my preamp (a tube Conrad Johnson) and a Lenovo ThinkPad R500 running Windows XP. I had to buy a firewire s400 for my PC's minidv adapter cable.
The vinyl source is a TD Ariston RD11S with SME arm and a new Audiotechnica AT-F7 cartridge.

UTILIZATION

I downloaded the latest drivers from TC-Electronic's website and I also updated the firmware.
I did some recording tests without modifying the factory settings using the stereo line inputs: At 16 bits / 44 khz, 24bits / 96 khz, and 24 bits / 192 khz. No particular issues.
My only problem is that the recording output level of my preamp is too high, even with the gain control to the minimum! The signal clips at 0dB with peaks.

GETTING STARTED

I had no problems during installation. The interface with the reverb works fine.
Since I don't have any music-dedicated software, I started recording with Audacity (which is free). I systematically got blue screens as soon as I pressed <Ok> after modifying the playback/recording devices. I think it's because ASIO isn't supported by Audacity. I then switched to Diamond Cut, a software designed for audio restoration. And I was able to record without blue screens.
The manual I downloaded from the website is pretty comprehensive (there is only one installation procedure reduced to the minimum).
I compared the reproduction (using it as DAC) with my BMC-2 and an M2Tech Hiface adapter. It's all right but the BMC-2 / Hiface combination is better (and the price is also higher!).
To get a vinyl-like quality, I record at 24 bits / 96 khz. In that case it gets very hard to tell any difference with the source.

OVERALL OPINION

I'm pretty satisfied with it overall:
- Reproduction of the recordings. - Its design. - Price.
It would've been nice to have a recording software (even a basic one) bundled with it.

I use it for everything, actually (to record vocals and my mixes, as output for my DAW, etc.).

They are very stable on MAC, but I haven't tested them on WINDOWS.

Even today I consider it first-class, because at this price point it doesn't have any real competitors.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

The TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 is a 2 in and 4 out firewire interface that has a built in preamp and comes with recording software. I have used the Konnekt 6 with other software though; you do not have to use the software that comes with it if you do not want to. You could run into some compatibility issues using it with your own software but there are ways to get it to work. My problem was that I was having some driver issues between the interface, Acid Pro and my computer. But after I uninstalled everything then reinstalled and didn’t load the software that came with the Konnekt 6 everything worked fine from that point on.

UTILIZATION

This interface comes with Cubase LE which is a great software to work with, if you are a beginner it will be a great software to start with and this interface is very user friendly. It has low latency drivers and can be used on a Mac and PC. It is also compatible with ASIO drivers which are pretty much a must have right now for any one making music from a personal computer at home (ASIO drivers are free).

GETTING STARTED

This interface comes with M40 Studio reverb by a company called AlgoFlex, I have never used this reverb because I tend to use my own plug ins for my reverb, but I would imagine that it would be a pretty standard reverb since it is free and comes with the Konnekt 6 interface.

OVERALL OPINION

This interface is built very well for it to be under 200 dollars. It comes with everything you need right out of the box to start recording and that is a huge bonus. I have not experienced anything bad with this interface but I have heard some bad things using it with Windows 7. I do not have Windows 7 to test it with, if you are thinking of purchasing this and you have Windows 7 you should do some research first.

I use it with keyboards, guitars, bass, percussion, microphones ...
So: two output jacks, 2 in, 1 headphone jack dispatcher sent to a multi-headphone jack and firewire for power supply and the reverb!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a few days ...
Its addition, the side "to everything" combined with a good sound ...
Moreover, since we do not ask myself the question ... I will tell you that my impression is this: Having a Firebox and a Motu (in repair ... ) ... I would say that the sound coming out of this little card paid less than 230 euros is certainly far less detailed than the hot Motu but ... not that much compared to the Firebox has it, a very cold ...
The Konnekt6 is thus placed in a better position than the firebox made in terms of overall sound and below the Motu ... The Konnekt has a lower pan, is a little less "hot" ... But we are dealing here with a very good deal since the Konnekt is cheaper than the Firebox, it comes with the Cubase4 and reverbs (accessible from the desktop) TC bill that has more to do name in this field.
I do not know how many presets there, but I can tell you that these reverbs are based on the "Hall", the "Room" and the "Plate" ... all of which are programmable with multiple parameters ... Function buttons and pre / post premettent save them or not.
The report is only good for someone like me, that does not require ten entries on the card and needed a good map at a lower cost! Time or months to repair my Motu ...
But I know that this little TC will not be lost! as it turns out to be very usable for the mobile ... the Motu at home ... TC's journey ... it can be done ...
One last little thing, the large button is used to manage the volume ... more you turn the turn, the more he "illuminated"!

Finally, for lovers of beautiful sound that is like me a little hay, two cards under 200 euros, which have a ratio quality price.
