With selective settings allowing to choose a frequency range of sounds, this pedal has the essentials. Here are the best noise gate pedal format that I could find.

UTILIZATION

Configuration could not be more simple: you turn the knob, the cursor is placed on the type of noise limit and voila! In difficult cases, we can put into action Trigger Hi button but then farewell to sustain.

SOUND QUALITY

Perfectly transparent, the Smart Gate is still at work in the effects loop of my amp when recording. And it really does work that is expected of him.
At one level adjustment, it can even turn off main attack for an effect of violoning surprising. It reminds me when a Roland pedal I was using a lot 30 years ago (!): The Small Gear (or something like that!) Which was precisely designed for that. Two pedals in one, then! But I confess I do use it as a "classic" Noise Reduction.

OVERALL OPINION

Various type pedal noise gate I could try it is still in MXR I found a real gem: a real efficiency, while preserving the sound of the guitar and the sustain. The door closes but never about music, only on the breath.
Still a great pedal from MXR.
