Fostex Multi-track recorder - adding effects

We are trying to add simple effects, such as flange, chorus, delay to a pre-recorded rock song. We are currently unable to make use of the effect for only a limited time. The effect lasts the duration of the track. Although we have managed to put in marks at appropriate points to start and end the effect we are unable to use them. Any guidance on how to do this or where to look for more help would be greatly appreciated.:rolleyes:
