speakers noisy after card upgrade

Hi All,
I am a newbee. I have just installed a echo mia midi card to my computer which is a xp pro sp2. The problem is that the device manager says its working properly and everything else the same, but all i get from the speakers is a constant noise and it changes with the movement of the mouse. I have only upgraded the card today.

What kind of noise is it? Is it like a hiss, or is it more like crackles and pops? If it's a hiss, it's probably an analog type problem- you've got something noisy in your signal line somewhere.

If it's crackles and pops, it's probably digital, and indicates some sort of timing or buffer problem.
