The BOSS CE-2 is one of the original chorus units made by BOSS in the early eighties. It was the first chorus made by the company to be put into one of their classic stomp box casings and it has a nice simple control layout as well. The two controls are pretty basic, rate and depth. They basically adjust the speed of your chorus effect (from slow to fast) and how intense the effect is (from very light and subtle to very heavy and dramatic with lots of pulsating tones. It's housed in the very durable BOSS casing and being that there are so many of these still in use today, it's a testament to their rugged construction.








UTILIZATION

The setup of the BOSS CE-2 pedal is pretty simple. The controls react as one would expect, and the chorus tones are nice and rich. BOSS was one of the pioneers of a very full and shimmering chorus tone overall and this pedal certainly has that. It's a very bright and glassy sound that really works for making the clean sounds of a guitar really sound excellent. Whether you're using it for chord work or some lead lines it reacts very well and feels good.

SOUND QUALITY

This pedal seems to sound best with single coil pickups from my experience. It really helps to take a Strat or Tele and just add some more glassy shimmer to its tone. Since those guitars are inherently thinner, this pedal can fatten the tone up a little bit with its rich chorusing, which is nice. It sounds fine with humbuckers too but I did find that things could get a little bit muddy with too much output coming from the pickups. This pedal definitely was made for cleaner amp tones. I particularly like it for those nice funky/jangly chords a-la Andy Summers or for some eighties power ballad type tones. You can use this pedal with distortion, but it will get kind of muddy, so unless you're going for a really grainy, washed out effect, I would stick to using this CE-2 for clean tones.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the BOSS CE-2 is a great version of the archetypal stomp box chorus. It is nice and simple, yet sounds great for bringing some new life to clean sounds. They haven't been made for quite some time, and are becoming a bit of a collectors item, but they're definitely worth it if you want some true and original chorus tones in a nice easy to use package.

Use even a monkey or a new n whelk cooked can be used easily.

ANALOG so greedy even with such a quality, one branch often.

SOUND QUALITY

ANALOG I tell you. For fans of numriques go your way, this is not for you. For lovers of heat, sound, deep and round in the style of Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page ... j'arrte s because it is difficult to mention all the guitarists who have used.

A good old Vintage Chorus 80s. It's analog. Apparently Andy Summers (POLICE) used it (and that was mostly a fan of the EC-1), I also saw this pedal in the pedal board of Johnny Winter (!)

UTILIZATION

Super simple 2 button. To the sounds it's also super easy. The manual is clear (at least for my part I was lucky enough to find with its box and manual), but we do not need the manual to make it work ...

SOUND QUALITY

Okay so the effect is effective, but I admit I had another model (Ibanez 80s) my favorite ... Yeah it allowed a wider range of sounds and stereo was then that this effect is mono. As against a chorus effect or a light jazzy it is perfect. I use it with my guitar and my Q-chord. In my opinion with a keyboard that also has to do it. on the other hand I prefer to use the Q-chord with the guitar ....

Since .... Months. For the value, it is still a fact that little find for a reasonable price to OCCAZ. I think if I was a remake not redeem it because I use some chorus finally ... But for a fan of Chorus is definitely a good choice, and it is an effect that is mythical and that there are still a reasonable price on the second hand market. Analog Chorus Pedal BOSS made late 70's made in Taiwan regarding the model I have. Bought 95 euro in perfect condition, it is beautiful (see photo on my profile)

UTILIZATION

Use could not be more simple. A knob wave velocity and depth of the effect knob. No volume. Note that the sound is slightly boosted when one switches on the pedal but it's still very light (unlike the TR2 tremolo or there is a decrease)

SOUND QUALITY

Chorus extremely accurate and really respect the grain of the guitar. I will not spit on the Electro Harmonix Small Clone, because I would say that these two chorus pedals are opposite and complementary. The chorus boss is not very typical, it is clean, clear, wonderful to bring some depth and warmth to its sound (eg Gilmour) The effect is thoroughly pushed very correct. This is not a "big" chorus. minimum position the effect is hardly noticeable in intermediate positions (I put the spleen depht 11:30 ET on a 13h) the sound is smooth, warm, well now but no more) A small clone, however, many colors more sound and is really typical. I use it for two months, a thousand times I'm satisfied with my purchase. It's a magic pedal. It's a model made in Taiwan and I know there are a lot of controversy over the supposedly superior quality of the models made in japan, I've never had the opportunity to play on a model so I do japan can not say. I am satisfied with TRS is a chorus pedals of references in my opinion crmeuse, warm, deep and intense, it is easy rgler and seems robust.
unfortunately it is no longer used as, boss having stopped production. I bought 90 euros for a OCCAZ MODEL Japanese.

UTILIZATION

Setup could not be more simple, which suits me perfectly.
It has the two essential settings for handling this type of effect: one knob for speed and one for depth, and basta.
So basically, it will be satisfied with the equalization of the amp, and only be used in mono, unlike many chorus pedals latest offering stereo use.

SOUND QUALITY

I agree with my predecessors commplètement: there is a simple fact, preferring warm vintage sounds.
I use it with a Start and a Hot Rod, only in clear, light enough for a chorus, a little style to that heard in "Purple Rain".

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a week.
I like its simplicity, it's really a pedal "plug and play".
Being a fan of this type of effect, I had the opportunity to play with a foot-5 boss what I used for a year to sell it later because I found it very clean and functional, but unfortunately a little bland (especially compared to the chorus of the 8240 Marshall amp I was using at the time).
Subsequently, I had the opportunity to try a few references in the store, the TC Electronic SCF (very good but a bit "cold" and too expensive) and MXR Stereo Chorus (top, but too expensive, too) .
Received second-hand pedal. It appears not to have been formed and yet it works perfectly.

UTILIZATION

Config very simple and very intuitive (two knobs at the same time ...).

SOUND QUALITY

Used with a scraper, for me it is THE force in the clear. It's simple, I play almost more clear without it. In full, it also gives a lot of scope is also very effective!

Unlike the Small Clone Electro-Harmonix, which is a very active chorus (cf. Come As You Are by our friend Kurt).

Personally I rarely misses grows beyond 10: after that sounds just too psychedelic for me! I usually put the rate between the mini and 10, and the depth between noon and max. I use it since 2008, I bought when I was still a student, on the bay. I saved for months to get it! And since I've never been disappointed!
In addition it is a beautiful object, what is more older than me, it's collector!

As for the models tested, primarily a Small Clone (chorus that is very present, as a reference that I would end up buying me: p), some multi-effects to the c * n.

Quality / price ratio: it is expensive! 120th for me at the time, and it has changed little since for made in Japan ... BUT, it's a pedal that I could do without. If it were to leave me tomorrow, I bought one without hesitation!

One of the great units from Boss back in the 80's. The CE-2 was the first compact pedal chorus from Boss. The CE-1 was released 1976 and contained the exact same circuit as the Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120 Amp. So to have the same specs as the Roland Jazz Chorus you are in good company. The Roland JC has been considered the best clean and chorus tone that has ever been produced. So this chorus is something to be revered. This was the pedal to have when playing a good clean tone or even needing a little thickening of the distortion guitar which was popular throughout the 80's. Metal guys would use this pedal to help beef up their overdrive tone and sweet the spectrum of frequencies up a little bit.

SOUND QUALITY

This is a legacy pedal from Boss. This was the second introduction to the chorus world and the first compact chorus pedal ever produced from the Boss company. So this pedal can be put on a pedestal.

I think this pedal shines in almost any situation it finds itself in. It sound superior with a clean guitar. You will get a nice watery shimmy tone that is almost magical to listen to. If you use it with an overdriven amp like a Marshall you get lighten up the control knobs a bit to add just a slight sweetening of the distortion. This will get you a big bigger tone much like adding an analog echo to the distortion tone. It is a nice tone filler.

OVERALL OPINION

These pedals were stopped being manufactured in 1990. So you would have to find one on the used market somewhere. They are great sounding pedal and some considered them the best chorus pedal that has ever been produced. If you score one somewhere you won't be disappointing.

The CE-2 that I owned was a really good chorus pedal. I had an old one, it was used plenty by its previous owner and it sounded very good. Only 2 controls but it did not need more. It's all analog and people are still looking for these so they tend to get some crazy internet prices from time to time. I’m often kicking myself for selling it because I don’t want to pay the silly prices and I really like the pedal.

UTILIZATION

2 controls, step on it, listen and tweak. That's how easy this one is. It sounds great with clean or od tones. You don't need a manual for that, just use your ears.

SOUND QUALITY

There's a reason why these are sought after. They are the closest to getting a CE-1. The CE-1 sounds stellar but it's a pain in the @ss to use, bulky and what not. The CE-2 is relatively similar and the closest to the CE-1. The CE-2 does not disappoint in the sound department at all. I loved mine with cleans just as much with OD tones. I ran it in front of a delay and could get some real nice clean tones for layering going. I know chorused overdrive tones tend to sound cheesy and/or dated but when used tastefully they work well in a lot of songs. The CE2 works well in front of OD-pedals or an overdriven amp. In fact, I never tried it in a loop so not sure how well it does there. Just stick it between guitar and amp and jam!

OVERALL OPINION

I'm not a big chorus-user but I do like it for some stuff. The CE-2 is very good. There seem to be a couple of versions and surely, according to the internet only 1 of them is worth your money but if you find one, check it out and if you like, buy it!

Boss Chorus bought second hand, I have a made in japan. I was lucky because the box is still in its original packaging, what is more, the color is beautiful, no scratches, almost new ..

UTILIZATION

Usage is very simple, as stated in previous opinions, as there are only two knobs ... Finally, after some tweaking, we quickly found the sound that suits ..

For Pink Floyd sound, this is THE pedal, of course, for the period the Wall, it is better to focus the Electric Mistress. on the other hand, and DSOT for PULSE is a must ..
