The TC Electronic Vintage Distortion is pretty basic as far as its characteristics go as it has a standard 1/4 inch input and output and is powered by a 9 volt power supply. The pedal isn't rack mountable as it is a guitar foot pedal.
UTILIZATION
Using the TC Electronic Vintage Distortion is just about as easy as it gets for a distortion pedal. The pedal has three knobs that control drive level, color filter, and output level. The only other parameter that the pedal has is a boost button and that is all that there is to the pedal. It is an easy to use pedal while still maintaining a good amount of versatility in terms of the sounds that you can get. The manual of the pedal is put...…

The manual of the pedal is put together well, but I haven't really had a reason to look at it in depth because of how easy it is to use.
SOUND QUALITY
The sounds that are possible with TC Electronic Vintage Distortion are quite good. I'm a big fan of this pedal as it definitely has a thick and full sounding distortion effect. While it does have a vintage twang to it, it doesn't sound as warm as a true vintage distortion pedal would. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just depends what you are going for. I have used the pedal for recording with a Fender Strat and a '76 Fender Twin Reverb and within this configuration I'm able to get some pretty consistently good sounding distortion sounds with this pedal involved. While it isn't the best emulation of a vintage distortion that I have heard, it definitley has its own sound that is great in its own right.
OVERALL OPINION
I've been using the TC Electronic Vintage Distortion for a couple of months and I'm definitely a fan of it. TC Electronic is known for making great gear, but usually aren't associated with distortion pedals so I was a bit surprised to see how good this pedal sounds. The price isn't too cheap but I would still recommend checking it out to see if it fits with your sound, as it might be worth the price if you think it will suit your style well. Overall, the TC Electronic Vintage Distortion is definitely a distortion pedal worth trying out.
