This is MXR's newest line of phasers out there. One of the most simplest effects one can possibly own.

Suppoed to be warm and analog sounding. Giving it that oh go recognizable 'swooshing' sound you hear on nearly every recognizable record.

UTILIZATION

Very easy, one know adjusts the amount/intensity/speed and depth of the phase sound, turn it to what you think sounds good according to what you're playing and how extreme or subtle you want the phase sound to be.

SOUND QUALITY

A lot of players almost always compare this to the script version and make a lot of observations about which one sounds better etc etc. I'm not going to open that can of worms it's just not worth my time.

The phase sound coming from this stock phase 90, however, is quite good. The swooshing sound is quite thick and extreme if you want it to be, however you can set the knob lower and get a more subtle phase sound if you wish. Again, depends on the context of your playing or the song that you're playing etc, set it accordingly. I don't think this pedal's true bypass as far as I know, most MXR pedals are not.

But the effect itself is simple and works. I can't really complain, it does what it's meant to do and does a fine job.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, it's a phaser. It's so simple it's stupid. I don't see why anybody would need to start comparing this to the older versions etc etc. There's really no need, it's just an effect, a swooshing sound that's adjustable with one single knob. I like it, it sounds good to me depending on where you set it and how distorted your signal is or how clean your signal is etc. But this type of effect, in my opinion isn't meant to be complex and over-analyzed, it is what it is and that's that!
