The Roland Phase Five is a classic phaser pedal that is rare and hard to find.  The pedal is an analog one that has standard 1/4 inch connections and is powered by a power chord that is permanently attached to the unit.  This isn't a rack mountable piece of gear as it is a foot pedal.

UTILIZATION

The make up of the Roland Phase Five isn't too hard to follow as everything is laid out pretty well.  You've got three different buttons as well as parameters for sensitivity, intensity, rate, and repeat.  That's pretty much all that there is to it and after playing around with it for a short while, I think that users will find it easy to use.  I don't think that a manual is necessary and since this is an old pedal I don't have access to one anyway.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the Roland Phase Five is overall very impressive.  It has an extremely realistic sounding tone and is just about as good of a phasing pedal that I have heard.  I have used the pedal for recording mostly with a Fender Strat and a '76 Fender Twin Reverb and within this configuration I can get some incredible sounds.  I can't really think of any other phaser pedal that exceeds the tone quality of this one as it really has the sound that I look for in a pedal of this nature.

OVERALL OPINION

While the Roland Phase Five pedal is not too readily available, if you are looking for one of the best phasers ever made, definitely look into this pedal.  It is expensive and hard to find but worth it for those who are interested in top notch tone regardless of price.  If you are a collector this will also be a hot item as this is a classic pedal.  The Roland Phase Five is a must see for all phaser enthusiasts!
