Excellent amplifier
Published on 04/21/16 at 04:212 photosI bought this amplifier because it was the only class A amp available in my area at that moment. Due to the reviews here I decided to buy it for recently acquired KEF Cadenza speakers. I am very happy with the sound that this combination produces. An excellent and clear range for the high's and low's, as well on soft as on loud volume. Mid's might seam low sometimes, but when your ears tune in they are there clearly as well. Having this set for one day I really like how it affects my hearing.00 - Bk basse
A solid, simple and handy amp
Published on 06/28/12 at 01:19I have been using it for five years without any reliability issues.
I didn't try out any particular models when I bought it, I wanted something new to have warranty and this one was the only one in the store in this category.
I bought it most of all due to its auxiliary jack input with adjustable volume (everything on the front panel)...Which is perfect to connect my bass directly, that was my goal.
As already explained in other reviews, this amp colors sound, the reproduction isn't neutral. I find the sound a bit too "living-room hi-fi" (but I use it with two "big" speakers that surely amplify this aspect and I have never used other speakers with it). I find the sound a bit too "living-room hi-fi" (but I use it with two "big" speakers that surely amplify this aspect and I have never used other speakers with it). However, when inputting an instrument directly (a passive bass in my case), it's truly perfect!
The output power is quite all right (it really rocks!) and, I repeat, it's really great to input an instrument on the front panel with a separate volume control, which allows you to, eventually, mix it with another input source. It's a handy solution to play at home without the need to take out all your live gear every time.
I don't know if I would buy it again, because it was an "urgent" purchase and, thus, I didn't do any comparisons, but in the end I'm satisfied with it.
The original remote supplied with it (including motorized volume, with the volume knob moving as visual feedback) is very practical, even if big, it provides lots of functions to control an entire audio setup.See less00 - AnonymousPublished on 01/09/05 at 09:57I've been using this amp for 4-5 years. It's a Hi-Fi amp in rack format without brackets, so it fits perfectly in the spaces designed to that effect, however it is pretty deep and rather heavy.
The build quality is very good, the interior is split into two parts separated by a huge radiator, there's no chance it can overheat!
It's a pretty powerful amp that can deliver quite a bit of watts to four speakers over two channels. This means it can feed two speakers on the right and two speakers on the left. I don't have the features at hand but, besides the comfortable power, it has a very low distortion rate, although the specs published by the manufacturers are often false.

In use, the A-R600 reveals itself as a standard hi-fi amp featuring two big potentiometers, one to select the source, and another one for the volume. But be careful with the volume control, it is graduated as attenuator, so everybody gets it wrong the first time. The three knobs in the center are to adjust the bass, treble and balance. Do note the presence of a slim "source direct" backlit button.
The sound, which is what matters most when it comes to an amp, is the A-R600's main strength. It has an impressive dynamic response, the highs are precise, just like the lows (something pretty rare on hi-fi amps), which aren't muddy nor soft. On the other hand, this amp adds quite some coloration. The bass-treble controls are trivial for home studio use, as well as the loudness button, because they don't allow you to grasp the coherence of a mix, not to mention the coloration they add, which isn't really a defect in itself once you are used to it, it's a smooth coloration that produces a very analog, high-end hi-fi sound. But to mix down it's sometimes useful to engage the "source direct" function, in which case the sound transforms and becomes much more precise, less rock and more clinical. Both uses are complementary at first, but once you grow used to it, you can achieve very good things without resorting to this function.
You can't really talk about value for money without talking about durability. Nothing has changed in the time I've had it, except maybe for the washed-out paint on a button, but the sound remains the same.
So, I recommend it to anyone looking for a precise and powerful sound to listen to music coupled with some good speakers. It's a very good solution, maybe a bit too powerful. Personally, I have never cranked it beyond a quarter of the way, otherwise I could damage my ears. I give it 8 due to some minor details, like the binding posts, the paint and the power, which isn't really optimal for home studio use.See less00 - dudulachandellePublished on 05/29/06 at 16:59It's a solid amp.
I bought to have hi-fi quality and due to its power (2*90W RMS).
It has served a double purpose (for money reasons): During weekdays I use it in my dorm room to listen to music at low volumes and on weekends it has been to garages, trunks and even on the streets amplifying the vocals of a punk group for two years, with the volume always on the verge of feedback, LOL. It has a mic preamp and I can assure you that the overheating protection works wonderfully. The potentiometers are solid and scratches are discreet. It's powerful.

I currently use it with my Studio lab 102 speakers. The combination is homogeneous. Sound is slightly colored, but it remains precise and more or less linear. So it's perfect to listen to vinyls, CDs or watch a film with not too demanding expectations.
It's not a remarkable amp, it has a good sound, it looks nice, but that's it.
The pros: Attractive price and overall quality.
The cons: screw terminals (for the speakers)See less00 - chris380Published on 09/16/06 at 12:37I've used it for about a week, after buying it secondhand online by chance to replace my Marantz PM7000, which I find a bit sluggish, despite having won the best amp award in 1999. I also tested two Akais (AM35 et AM39), which were very good, with a Luxman-like sound, and a Yamaha system (C65 and M65), which was very powerful but too audiophile-oriented.
But to come back to the Teac, what surprised me right from the start was the stereo separation, I had never heard something like that!!! Superb, even though the internal design doesn't seem to favor that domain. The sound, in general, seems well-balanced, but only that. It's only after 15 minutes of warming up that the Teac AR600 reveals its qualities: Very dynamic, a physiological sound, meaning the lows and highs are quite present, which I personally like, the mids don't have that much presence, which all in all yields a very real clarity. It seems more powerful than what it's rated at. In short, a very good amp I'm not ready to let go of. Besides, I love how it looks, which is also important.
As for negative points, because there always are some: It doesn't save the settings in the memory when powered off or you have to set it in stand-by mode, but I'm being picky about it. The front panel is made of plastic, with a very nice aluminum imitation, but still...!!!
Secondhand for 150-200 euros in this category, it's unbeatable.See less00
