These speakers are actually Unitra Tonsil ZG/40 (40w rms into 8 ohms), made in Poland in the late 70s. France sold badged Thomson, Continental Edison, even Pathé Marconi, or to score close to zero on the market Cygnus. Found € 50 in perfect condition on a classifieds site well known, the worse if his was moldy they could serve as vintage deco.
very little information in French or English, but a lot of pages in Polish, which seem to be very fans of these speakers.
They are solid wood and must weigh within 30 pounds unit. they are 3-way + a passive radiator in the bass and a tunable filter for the treble. They impose upon their size and without the guard they have a sacred mouth. We appreciate the attention to detail in the finish (eg heads of the screws fixing hp are all aligned with each other).
Tested with an old Pioneer "silver face" ass, huge surprise to listen, the sound is beautiful. Pushing the volume, no unpleasant vibration or distortion in the sound. Yippee. Not huge but a serious sub very precise. The medium is extremely detailed, can be a bit aggressive. In any case nothing to do with hifi artificially widened by any means. The highs are sweet, it does not go very high. With some couillus albums that sound like it should (Superunknown Soundgarden, The Shape of Punk to Come Refused to, Aenima by Tool ...) the depth of the mix is respected, there is a nice stereo image, the reverbs are not drowned with the rest.
I do not expect much by plugging. And even if I had paid € 300 I would have been on his ass. If you find a pair in good condition do not hesitate one second, compared to many existing stereo speakers to less than 300 €, it's really over.
a first pair of pregnant with my first salary in 1978.
excellent passive radiator enclosure has a power of 40W
a powerful bass that shook the furniture
if one day you find yet do not hesitate to buy after trying it
