Carvin has added spalted maple to the list of available optional top woods for their Custom Shop guitars & basses.
According to Carvin, spalted maple is similar tonally to to 4A flamed maple and 4A quilted maple, but with a highly interesting figure. Every spalted top is completely unique, due to the natural processes (namely the action of fungus and bacteria on a maple wood submerged in a swamp) that created the spalting in the first place. All Carvin Custom Shop woods woods are said to be hand-selected by experienced luthiers.
Black burst, cherry burst or sunsetburst finishes can also be added over spalted maple.
