«  beautiful violin for a very vintage sound »

Published on 07/02/14 at 09:28
The Sheraton II Epiphone version of the Gibson ES335;
His violin made in Korea is absolutely beautiful, better than the Gibson ES335 DOT Made in USA entry level to 2500euros!
beautiful sunburst, beautiful fillets plywood box nets, handle, head and gills, abalone markers, gold hardware, gloss (strong enough), tortoise pick guard.
2 Epiphone Alnico Classic Pickups / neck and Alnico Classic Hot / bridge.
10-46 strings of origin, very good original setting (Action a little high at Nut)

I had to make a slight adjustment notches 3 saddle bridge for the string height well suited them

UTILIZATION

Relatively light guitar, handle fine fairly flat,
double notch allows access to acute even on the low strings (but we will not often?)
the volume and tone knobs are effective.
The ES335 form is present, but ultimately not so cumbersome due to its low thickness (see Alvin Lee)

I find it unbalanced with an itchy head down.

SOUNDS

I play blues and classic rock (Chuck Berry, Alvin Lee)
it is very good for that;
microphones are quite clear and warm,
I prefer the neck pickup with reverb '
the bridge pickup with a tube screamer is sending.
it has a sound all its own, certainly through the semi-hollow body;
I compared the sound without a microphone than a Gibson 335 DOT, and had preferred the Epiphone

I think it would improve again with Seymour Duncan SH1 '59, for more precision and articulation of notes,
but it would be a little less in the spirit and vintage sound

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 years, in parallel with a '62 Strat RI, they complement each other well.
I wanted an ES335, but I preferred the Epiphone Sheraton II with Gibson ES335 DOT sound and finish, regardless of price; Probably the Gibson ES335 Custom Shop is better than the Sheraton, but then the price is a deterrent.

when we see it, when you play it, and you see the price, this is an amazing deal.
and if you want a more modern sound, you change it and it gets its microphones Warren Haynes!

obviously deserves a quality case to protect
