As a tribute to Eddie Cochran, Gretsch's Custom Shop announced the G6120EC model.
In 1955, at 16, Eddie Cochran bought an orange Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins (serial number 16942), which he customized with p90 “dog ear” pickups. He played that guitar all his life, and it can be heard on hits such as “Summertime Blues”, “C’mon Everybody” and “Somethin’ Else”.
The musician-singer died in a car accident in Chippenham (England) on the 17th of April 1960 ; the guitar was in the trunk and, after being restored, was given to his family. After Eddie Cochran made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his family authorized the museum to exhibit his guitar.
The Custom Shop announced a limited edition of 50 models recreating the guitar.
