Best value: Excellent
- Choice motivated by the number of analog inputs / outputs and the simplicity of the interface (32bit PCI standard). This card is enough to turn any PC into a multitrack studio. Affect latency: 2.5ms 48000Hz (96 not tried, what for?)
- "Home studio" recording
- Config: DG965SS, Core 2 Duo E6600 (2x 2.4GHz), 4GB RAM, 2 x 500G (WD, super silent)
- Used with Guitar Fender Start (standard AM, buy the US on-site), Fender Deluxe Active P-Bass, SE Electronics mics Audix OM5 and M1C, etc., etc..

UTILIZATION

- Installation: Piece of Cake, opens your your PC, you plug in the PCI slot, you boots.
- No incompatibility.
- Config super easy: my studio is running Linux (Ubuntu Gutsy realtime kernel 2.6.23, jackd audio server, ICE1712 driver alsa, no lzard, it's all "out of the box").
- Manual? there was one? chuis sr c'tait as a manual for windoze ...

GETTING STARTED

- ALSA driver snd-ICE1712 works imppec
- Set - Update: hmmmm, may be I do not know really, I am the evolution of the Linux kernel that contains ALSA depusi quite a while now
- Software: mix h / w envy24control recorder / mixer multitrack Ardour, rhythm box software Hydrogen, Rosegarden MIDI editor (I use a piano CA5 the same time with all this mess), sequencer software fluidsynth, amsynth, etc. (much of the "jack apps" for insiders linux)
- Latency 2.5ms (with jackd config: jackd-R-DALSA-dhw: 0-r48000-p64-n2)
- Can record all MIDI tracks +

OVERALL OPINION

- Used for almost 2 years
- Loves most: simplicity and reliability (not plant, you plug something in and out perfect. Likes least: the connections -> no. All those damn cables RCA unreadable. The first thing I made it mark the cables so I am confused. Another "minus" unbalanced connections (unbalanced, I know ... not really franais asymmtriques may be?).

I do not know if I would do given the choice I know a little more but it's not a choice that I regret, not in the least. The quality-price ratio is excellent in my opinion.

I just acqurir the RME Multiface II Systm with HDSP PCI card. a should be a notch pro. We'll see ...
