Native Instruments is actually working on the next version 1.6 of Maschine; beta version to be publicly released beginning of 2011.
Version 1.6 of Maschine will accept VST plugins and AU, which can be used as the source source, sound generators, effect units, control etc.
Native Instruments has also announced, new functionalities and improvements in this new version, but what they are exactly remains undisclosed.
While waiting for the public beta version, the editor has in the meantime offered us a screen shot of the new interface to-be in Maschine 1.6:
