    P90 version of the Antique

Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique H90Published on 09/11/11 at 17:38
This is the P90 version of the Antique Classic. It's pretty much the same guitar as the normal Antique Classic, but this guitar is equipped with the (very cool) P90s that Gibson offers in some of their guitars. The guitar features a mahogany body with a maple top, mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, trapezoid inlays, pickguard, binding, hard tail bridge, two P90s, two volumes, two tones and a three way switch.

This is the P90 version of the Antique Classic. UTILIZATION

The inlay work on this was done nicely. There were no fillers or anything like that in there like I've found in some lower end Gibsons. The nut itself was cut properly, although the string gauge that was put on this guitar was wrong. Someone put 11s on it, and they were a touch too big for the nut on the bass side. The fretwork itself seemed to be great with no annoying edges slicing your hand or uncrowned frets.

    SOUNDS

The P90s in this are pretty ripping. They have this awesome vowely kinda sound that really helps make it sound like a thicker strat. If you've always wanted that strat sound but you wanted something that's a bit thicker, definitely check out these pickups. The bridge is great for that slightly overdrive tone, and it actually gets a pretty solid clean tone as well. The neck is a bit weak in terms of output, but it just oozes blues tone for days. Higher gain tones are a bit lacking, but lead tones are great for that open and vowely kinda tone. These are some of my favorite lead guitars for rock tracks because of the way they respond.

    OVERALL OPINION

These are great guitars if you're looking for that P90 tone. P90s are great for blues tones, rock tones and some lead tones. I'm not a huge fan of them for metal, but there are a few crazy people out there who make them work. The guitar isn't quite as versatile as a normal humbucker guitar, in my opinion, but I feel everyone serious guitarist should have at least one P90 equipped guitar in their arsenal just in case.
