Published on 08/12/11 at 21:14This is a unique guitar and it's called the Gibson Les Paul standard DC light. This is kind of a mix between SG and a regular Les Paul guitar. It looks more like a Paul Reed Smith guitar than anything though. The shape of it is a double cut out with the two humbuckers the one volume in one tone everything down to the even contour the body it looks exactly like eight Paul Reed Smith guitar.
The tone of this I believe is closer to the regular Les Paul that does the SG but I believe it has a chambered body which gives it a little bit of a hollow sound to the tone. The tone is very articulate and not as muddy as some Gibson Les Paul's can be. Overall it's a cool guitar and is a very unique one that was only built for a certain period time during the late 90s and early 2000s.

SOUNDS
I really like the tone of this guitar. It has a nice robust tone which mixes well with the mahogany body in the rosewood fretboard. The color of the guitar is very Paul Reed Smith is well. It's more of a light brown but not quite gold painted body. This guitar sounds great with any high gain amplifier and probably sounds a little better than a regular standard Gibson Les Paul with the clean amplifier such as the Fender or even at Roland JC 120.
This guitar has a unique tone compared to any of the other Gibson standard series guitars. The body shape it's almost like a Gibson 335 but not quite as large as that guitar is. Overall it's a cool guitar but I can see why it probably didn't catch on as much has the Gibson explorer, the Gibson SG, or the Gibson Les Paul guitars.
OVERALL OPINION
The only way you can get your hands on one of these guitars at this point is going to the used market for one. You can find them on eBay or the classifieds for right around $800. Not that bad of a price for a pretty cool guitar and a unique one for limited time that Gibson ran this series. I would recommend this guitar if you're tired of the standard SG tone and the standard Gibson Les Paul tone.
