Rode announced the release of the SmartLav, a new lapel microphone that connects directly to the headset jack of Apple iOS devices.

The SmartLav mic is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and is designed to be used in film, television or broadcast situations, and even on stage where a discreet mic is required. The microphone records via the Rode Rec or the free Rode Rec LE iOS apps. Third party recording apps are also compatible.

The mic employs an omni-directional condenser capsule and captures sound in 360 degrees. A foam pop shield is included to minimise wind noise and vocal plosives (hard ‘b’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ sounds), as well as a durable mounting clip with in-built cable management.

The Rode Rec app offers a full-featured recorder with several equalization presets, editing functions and the ability to publish to SoundCloud and Dropbox directly from the app.

Recommended retail price: GBP £43.99
