George L's .225 (Cable Instrument)

I got one of these cables as a demo. I was very surprised as the size of this thing. It was very thin in diameter. Sort of like what my Macbook’s power adapter wire’s size is. Very uniquely thin. The Jack itself is quite good quality, not gold plated or anything fancy like that but sturdy. I tried it out for a few months didn’t find anything very amazing about these cables. They sort of sound like what they look like, if that makes any sense. I’ll try to explain a bit more, the cable’s thin and the signal itself was quite strong and yes, lacked some low midrange and bass. But the presence was there, definitely. But it wasn’t overly bright. It’s sort of like taking a blanket off a speaker sort of sound. But that is not to say that the sound isn’t good, it’s got plenty of upper midrange and still brings your guitar signal out in front. The cable itself is just so thin I’m afraid it’ll snap in half or something! Also, it still tangles, of course it does. The longer it is, the more tangled up it gets. It’s quite an annoying habit with cables of almost all types. Anyhoo, I used the cable for as long as I did and eventually didn’t have it anymore. I can’t remember if I sold it or if I just gave it away to a friend but I did invest in other cables after. Cables to alter the sound of your guitar quite a bit so investing in some good ones and experimenting with different brands and types is always interesting. I didn’t think too much of these cables unfortunately. Though I did like the pedal kit as it saved a lot of space and was very convenient.

I've been playing electric guitars for about 12 years now, and for many of them, I simply used whatever cables I had. These varied in quality and stature from mediocre no name brand cables to some reasonable ones by companies like Yorkville and Planet Waves (average price paid for those was about $15-$25 each). I'd read about these boutique cables like George L's in various magazines like Vintage Guitar and Premier Guitar over the years and with that, read the debates that ranged from "These cables aren't worth the $$," to "Best cables I've ever used... my whole rig is now set up with them!" Because of their high price (about $70 for a 15ft cable) I avoided buying one for many years, partially because I didn't see any problems with my "cheaper" cables, plus I can be hard on cables so as a result they don't always last as long as they should...

Fast forward to December 2010. After reading about them for many years, I received one as a Christmas present (15ft version). I was very excited and curious to finally, after all this time, come up with my own answer to the "cheap vs. expensive cable" debate. I unpacked it from the package and was struck by how well it was constructed. The cable material itself is very high quality and seems very durable as well, which was a problem I had with cheaper cables. It has very nice molded ends with stress jacks as well. Given this presentation, I was hoping that the tone matched up. Did it?


In one word, yes. The minute I plugged it in, I was struck at the difference that it made to my tone. It made the most different to my high end frequencies. With my cheaper cables, it was almost like there was some sort of filter cutting into my high end and making it too muddy. That is not the case with the George L's. All of the frequencies cut through clearly and distinctly, but there is not too much of any one frequency either. It made my rig sound clearer and just plain... better. Definitely impressive. I've been using this cable non-stop since December and definitely plan to buy them exclusively in future. They're costly, but definitely worth it.

I just received my George L's cable, a gift from a friend in Canada. Compared my old cable (it is of good quality day and night: the bass became more attack, the sound is less muddy. The treble and mid are dtach more Arian, more clean.
I play with a Telecaster up with 3 Seymour Duncan Vintage Rail (fawn Start), a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I'm selling this amp that I find too "slamming" in the clear, but with this cable, I wonder if I will not give him a chance deuxime.

My only concern: is there a distributor in France?

My advice: before you change the amp, change your cable!

I put 10 for the two but I will for robustness.

It is my opinion one of the best brands of cable instrument, the sound is warm, the whole is really nothing to say on this point. (Used with a seven-string in a mesa).

The large black dot of Cables (I had two) is their strong hard me none more than a year before making small cuts in the sound (like short circuits and then hang in cable). So of course I ride a lot but the same treatment of the whirlwind or planet waves do not stumble and have been for several years (10 years for whirlwind).

I dduis so it's a great choice for studio or playing the house without stepping on and for the rest it is better to target other brands with which we have fewer surprises.
