Ibanez PGM301 Paul Gilbert Signature

Paul Gilbert is a shredders shredder. He has put out a ton of stuff and his playing gets better and getter and it was already great 20 years ago. He is an unusual shredder because he prefers a hardtail bridge on his guitar. Most shred players cant go 30 secconds without a divebomb. Paul prefers the hardtail bridge for the tuning stability and simplicity. This is his signature model with the hard tail bridge. This model was introduced in the early 90s. Other than the finish and the controls this model is a pretty basic RG. This guitar has a basswood body with an original wizard neck which is still the thinnest. The neck is 1 piece of maple with a maple fretboard. The neck has 24 jumbo frets. The pickup configuration is an HSH configuration. The pickups are Dimarzios in every position. The neck and bridge pickups are PAF Pros while the middle pickup is a JEM single coil. The controls are simple. There is a single volume knob hidden within the painted on F-holes and there is a 5 way blade switch to switch between the pickups. The switch is also hidden in the fake F-holes

UTILIZATION

If someone like Paul Gilbert is going to play your guitars they better play very well and this guitar does. It has the old school Wizard neck which is even thinner than most of the necks they put out now. The neck is super thin and playable. The flat radius fretboard lets you slam the action pretty low. You dont get many maple fretboard shred guitars so this was the only one you could get for a long time. The hardtail bridge means you get super tuning stability and simplicity. You can easily change tunings and tune down whenever you want without having to worry about spring tension.

SOUNDS

Paul Gilbert has been using the same Dimarzios forever. He has been a loyal Dimarzio user for a long time. The guitar is an HSH configuration which gives you great versatility. The PAF pro is a classic Dimarzio pickup. Like its name says it is directly based on the Gibson PAF. The pickup has a super over the top tone that really cuts through the mix. The low notes have a boxey vocal quality that makes it sound like an old school pickup. It works well great in each position. In the neck it has a clear sharp sound that can really sing with your solos. In the bridge it has a very open sound that is not super compressed.

OVERALL OPINION

If you want the true Paul Gilbert experiance this is the guitar. You get no frills with this one. No tremolo, no tone knobs its just your skill. This guitar is all you. It doesnt cover up your playing for you. What you see is what you get with this guitar. It is a stripped down bare bones shred machine. If you are a Paul Gilbert fan or dont mind playing a guitar with painted on F-holes this guitar is a great player.

UTILIZATION

The handle is not pleasant, it is simply amazing! There's no point in trying to describe it must be tested!

Ibanez RG Cup, access to acute is perfect, same for the ergonomics

In terms of sound, this guitar is very special ....

SOUNDS

I am crazy about this guitar architecture:

1 - the look (although I hated before) ... ah c reverse the head is far too rare unfortunately Ibanez

2 - the ease of playing, we are in Ibanez RG Series, Series "prestige" ... the handle is a German motorway (no speed limit: D)

BUT! 3 - this guitar is definitely not made for metal, it has a relatively acute grain. to test for the blues-rock or funk, to metal I'll test a SH4 Seymour (white) ... Paul Gilbert plays very little about its own model in heavy saturation (RacerX among others)

OVERALL OPINION

I have this guitar for 3 ½ years, I love this look, simple but so charismatic (black and white gills +).

Tried again at Musikmesse 4 years ago, guitar light fittings simple.

Quality / price ratio: a well equipped luxury model, the perfect violin to shred for a very reasonable price, with a look that is unlike any other.

I would do the choice is obvious (I am always moved by opening its case "/>) But I tested another configuration of microphones before (at least for metal)

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Update of 13/01/2010:</span> With great distance today, including the use of a Seymour Duncan SH4 Jeff Beck in bridge for a few months, it is a mistake to change the pickups on this guitar, the configuration of the microphones Original gives as much as the beautiful soul beautiful black on white gills. After 5 years of use is still my favorite of my 5 guitars, a treat being passed to the amplificaiton any lamp.

This guitar has a sound and a look all its own ... and that's why I like it <img class="smiley" src="/images/audiofanzine/interface/smileys/icon_lol.gif" alt="" /> !

Good configuration which t is said above trs complete. Note the handle 5 pieces instead of three of the last MODELS.
I put nine in the absence of tonality, but this simplicity makes the charm of the guitar!

UTILIZATION

The handle is really trs enjoyable from the moment we like the sleeves and for trs trs dishes. but the neck is an Ibanez REFERENCE in the genre! varnish, for trs is enjoyable.
Access in acute form is perfect for a stratoidale. It is of course not an sg, but I wonder if we could have done better
The guitar is trs trs balance and ergonomic shape. As for the weight, I had never held a guitar as lgre. It's almost a toy TElement this guitar is lgre.
Apart from the five positions slecteur is the fortunately no rglage possible. This gives mlagrs all, thanks to the choice of microphones and prsence the simple and versatile guitar with good sound trs.

SOUNDS

The overall sound suitable to my style of music. I'm east rock, heavy, blues.
I play with a Marshall MG50 DFX amp which is not always the height.
The two pickups are PAF pro trs good. In the neck position, the guitar has a sound enough crmeux, while remaining quite modern and right in prcis distortion. Clean in the bass is round and dynamic.
Pickup position, the sound is drier, more punchy neck pickup and that devilishly precise in the solos. Harmonics out a leisure and are very pure.
The real surprise is the simple micro of this guitar. Its clean sound is simply stunning Character. it produces a more mtallique a fender and lowering the gain on Lampl gives her a close TElement BEYOND folk guitar that could not recognize an ibanez. The positions out of phase can play absolutely everything even reggae or funk.
9 due to lack of fishing the neck pickup. the sound is pretty nice ds totu positions, it is pa guitar "rugie"

OVERALL OPINION

I possde this guitar for 1year.
What I like most is look trs are original, the fact that this is not guiatre rpandue allowing did not have the same guitar everyone. his own but his trs trs versatile.
I tried a gibson SG standard plays the purchase and a ibanez prestige diffrent but it was love at first sight I tried it at 5 minutes and went back to a hand Pouche 1170 euros later. The report price is the quality standard Ibanez: trs good lctronique, violin and finishing IRRPROCHABLE COMPTITE for a price. I would say a good quality even if prices have declined since gibson les paul studio little is a 990 euros. The itch of quality diffrence in price is l. But fear not this guitar is worth up to 1250/1300 than I think.
I definitely remake this choice with the experience but I tried other models before choosing I think.

UTILIZATION

The handle is a matter of habit, it is mostly flat and rather broad which may destabilize the fans of fenders.
However, once it was done by hand is a joy. it's going at full speed, it feels to grow wings.
The guitar is very heavy. Comfortable to wear.

SOUNDS

She's very versatile. Although on paper it is mostly blues / funk / jazz. But she also knows how to get a place in the metal.
I use it in drop C, the sounds are very powerful mediums.
I use the guitar with a Pod X3 Live with equalization neutral with a thrust on the bass.
And in the middle of songs from the microphone was a serious crystalline in its desire that makes you cry the most beautiful walks ...

It'll be a year since I use it, I must say I am completely satisfied.
