    a work of art

PRS Modern Eagle IIPublished on 11/17/11 at 09:01
PRS is mostly known for their super high end guitars. This is one of these super high end guitars. These guitars are more to be collected than played. Even though most people will not play them the playability and sound is not neglected. The sound and playability are as good as the fit and finish and looks on this guitar. The top is pretty curled maple. It looks like a mix between flamed maple and quilted maple. The finish is blue and they call it Blue Jeans stain or something. The rest of the body is mahogany. The top is pretty curled maple. It looks like a mix between flamed maple and quilted maple. The finish is blue and they call it Blue Jeans stain or something. The rest of the body is mahogany. The neck itself is rosewood along with the fretboard. The neck is the PRS Wide Fat profile. The fretboard has 22 frets with the famous PRS bird inlays. Up top you get the fancy PRS locking tuners which are very nice. The bridge is PRS's wrap around bridge which they have refined to almost being perfect. The pickups are PRS's PAF style pickups. PRS said they are made with the same wire that the original PAF's were made with.

    UTILIZATION

With the rosewood neck I was expecting it to have bad balance but the balance of the guitar is very good. The PRS neck scale of 25 inches provides a good balance between the Gibson and Fender scales. This combined with their refined bridge means that the intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. You notice this a lot with PRS's. Coming from a Strat or a Les Paul to a PRS you suddenly realize how good a guitar sounds when its in tune all the way up the neck. The locking tuners are cool and are PRS's own design. They have a special method for you to use to string up your guitar that also increases tuning stability.

    SOUNDS

The PRS 1957/2008 pickups in this guitar are crazy. They sound more PAF like than real PAF's. The tone is very balaced between the strings. When you play a chord every string rings out equally and you can hear every note. With the rosewood neck there is an unusual amount of clarity. Even when you role all the tone off in the neck position you can still hear everything you are playing and it doesnt sound like their is a blanket over your amp. People are going to want these pickups for their own guitars. They are some of the best PAF replicas I have ever heard.

    OVERALL OPINION

These guitars are real works of art. They take the perfect playability that you find on most every PRS and combine it with flawless woods that you do not come by every day. This guitar costs over 7000 USD, but the great thing with PRS is that you dont have to buy their top of the line model to get all the great PRS feel and playability. Even their SE import line has great playability. If you are a PRS collector than this guitar is a must have. If you are just looking for a great playing and sounding guitar you can get a normal PRS and have all the feel that this guitar has.
