Yamaha SGV300

I got this guitar on trade in for my Fender super strat deluxe, some people think that was stupid but i can hear the difference.I had no intentions of getting a new guitar, i just liked the way it looked and tried it out. The price tag said $600 canadian at Morris Music in S.J/N.B great helpful staff.

The first thing that grabbed me about this guitar(besides its looks and great paint job) was the pick ups and the various tones they produced, it sounded a bit like a jaguar.It was also nice to use a tremolo and not have it lose its tune.

i have only two beefs with this product, #1 being the damn clear sticker they put on the pick gaurd was hard to get off and left sticky crap behind. #2 when I get a new guitar (this is number 7) i like to get a booklet and warranty card which i did not get.

For any price this is a well made guitar, from its unique headstock to its 60's style tremolo unit. The Alder body is a nice touch and well painted very tight guitar.Dont let the Crazy look or the price tag throw you off.

So if you are looking for a new guitar,from surf to Crust and back, try this out!

I acquired this guitar because I wanted to start learning how to play guitar. I decided to get something that was relatively cheap (in price), so I picked up this guitar in a combo with a Peavey Rage 158 amp, a gigbag, and some extras. The whole thing cost me about $500 CAD (that's roughly... $350 US$?).

I could not be happier with my purchase. I spent $500 on what I thought would be a cheap guitar to last me until I learned enough to warrant a good one, as it turns out this guitar is really good. The single coil (neck) pickup has a beautiful tone for jazz and blues, and the humbucker has an ok rock/metal tone (it's a little too bright for my tastes).
Durability is not an issue here! I can't even count the number of times I've speared the Samurai-style headstock into a wall, and it doesn't even have a scratch on it!
The controls are easy to handle, and overall the guitar is overflowing with playability.

I wish the humbucker pickup was a little darker, and I think the tuning heads might need replacing, since the guitar never EVER stays in tune after I put it in the gigbag. Also, it's easy to lose part of your pickup selector switch if you're not careful (it unscrews).
However, for a $500- instrument, these are considerably few drawbacks.

The headstock is an innovative 'Samurai-style,' and the body is also a Yamaha original. So overall the design is pretty cool, although I think they could have easily added another half inch of scale length.

This guitar is sturdy and won't fall apart on anyone, that I can say for sure. Like I said before, it's got really good construction.

I don't think I could've found a better beginner's guitar. The price to quality ratio was amazing, especially since I didn't know if I was even going to like playing guitar. I reccomend it to anyone wondering the same thing. I will never again buy this guitar, simply because I now have higher demands of my instruments and am already planning to spend $2000 on my next one.
