« Excellent tool! »
Published on 01/13/13 at 06:19Reverberation entry level model rack, digital connectors (unbalanced) complete considering its price.
Mine is a generation old (<1999), I do not know the latest generation ALESIS since changed owners several times.
Personally, I edit my sounds via Unisyn an old MOTU software runs only on older Mac G4 equipped with Mac OS 9.
Today, I do more than serve to provide reverb returns headphones making sounds.
UTILIZATION
I had a manual in English, but fortunately, this module is so simple and intuitive that the manual does not use much.
In fact, the sound editing is a cinch as long as you mastering reverb and what its parameters.
Note that there are two blocks configurable as desired and are available in a range of temporal effects (chorus, flanger, delay, etc ...).
It is possible to obtain a stereo processing "real" by configuring two motors in parallel by assigning the same effect.
SOUND QUALITY
Programs origins are a bit too typical, probably to highlight the craft. However, for those who take the time to understand the usability simple, it is easy to take beautiful reverbs by combining the second module.
Note the presence of unpleasant digital artifacts when the parameters are pushed too far.
Midiverb my IV was in turn used as main reverb in my guitar rack, and for mixing some way to keep the secondary instruments, and finally its utility is still the sound for listening comfort musicians.
Obsolete technology, but an effect, whatever it is, becomes too? My answer is no.
OVERALL OPINION
I bought mine in 1995 for the sum of CHF 2450 At this time, I tried everything that was in this price range (not much, indeed!).
At the same time, I doubled my buy a Digitech DSP128 + makes me always full menu services. All these old modules can remain formidable tools. Like all reverbs, they have specific tones and grains.
At a time when everything is in the computer, it is nice to have modules like this to give a little more productions smoothed by software a bit overrated.
My home studio is based on this concept, except analog recording tracks on the Mac. I try to mix by hand as the former when projects are manageable.
To me, his biggest weakness is the external power supply. I really hate this stuff.
Strengths: Personality marked, easy to program, large bright screen, sounds very suitable. Bit noisy despite the lack of inputs - outputs.
I do not know the newer models, but I would do this choice with your eyes closed.
Value - unbeatable price.
