Framus Studio 3000Published on 04/19/12 at 11:32

My old Framus is June 1962, made "in the heart of Bavaria", as indicated in the box.

Acoustic guitar style parlor, gills "f".
Mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, body light wood maple or spruce, but I do not know because mine is black. A nice binding on the gills, the ribs and the neck underscores the generous curves of this beautiful object.

UTILIZATION

The guitar is not easy to play ... When set to p'tits onions and pulling even with a soft, delicate and struck out the hand a little tired. But we do not demand to shred. Besides access to acute, after the 15th fret, is rather strong.
The weight of the guitar is ridiculous and ensures long hours of play up! cool!

SOUNDS

Acoustically, the guitar is fun to play. It was perhaps not an instrument of madness in the legs but it does a good job. The sound is clear and present some serious, as can be expected on an archtop.
This is perfect for a good blues, fingers or bottleneck, and pumps in jazz go sooooo well. An acoustic sound unpretentious but does well to the styles of the time.

Where it gets interesting is that I bought it to amplify it!
A microphone attached to the floating handle (the space between the table and leave me the ropes no choice if I do not want to break the table, I bought a Kent Armstrong Slimbucker), a jack-belt attachment, a knob of volume on the pickguard and presto, an electric archtop.

pfft! Missing the lack of serious acoustic (they even tend to be overrepresented), accuracy is maintained, the sound is hot, nice for jazz (I use a big band, the pumps are at the Count Basie hair ), it has never been so good for the blues, and not be shy for a good rock'n'roll / rockabilly, she loves it!

For heavier loadings, the sound becomes more granular, inaccurate, sweet with a octaver and fuzz, it larsene soon!

OVERALL OPINION

I'm in love. It has its own character, it is not easy to play, it has its limitations, the sound is sometimes hard to master, but I have an old machine of '60 who lived and still has a bright future ahead her.
And € 300 for electrification understood, it is a bargain.
I have the chance to be in super condition for an old lady of 50 years, but it's still vintage: the lifts are changing and the key is a little off the top of the handle, watch out if you find Cygnus ! ;)
