    Digitech X-Series Overdrive

DigiTech Tone Driver OverdrivePublished on 11/19/03 at 15:00
I purchased this pedal in my local guitar shop in England, (B&T Music) after reading reviews in my magazine. I had to order it and after a very long wait of about 2months I finally recieved it. It cost the normal retail price of £90 and is the first pedal I have bought.

The pedal has very nice and classic rock sounds which gives me a kick and more confidence when playing any rock song. It is very sturdy so it's almost impossible to damage it and the morph knob gives a versatile range of distortion.

Being my first effects pedal, I wasn't sure about how long the battery would last but it drained much faster than I expected and when I bought another £4 battery to replace it, it still wouldn'…

Being my first effects pedal, I wasn't sure about how long the battery would last but it drained much faster than I expected and when I bought another £4 battery to replace it, it still wouldn't work. After buying a cheap battery, it did so I'm not sure if it was the pedal itself but I suggest buying a mains adapter. Also if you use a high setting on the pedal through a clean amp, there appears to be too much distortion and feedback to play ordinary rock sounds, however Metallica type songs sound alright.

A very sturdy piece of equipment with tough construction and knobs. There is the evolutionary morph knob for varied distortion. There is also a mixer out so that you can go straight into recording. It never really slides about and it is so easy to use.

Being my first pedal and costing quite a bit of money, I believe this is a very good buy. It produces quality sounds and is basically many ordinary distortion pedals in one. Those who prefer modern rock sounds may like to consider the 'Hot Rod' instead but this is a pedal worth some thought.

    Digital overdrive pedal.
A jack input, two output jacks, including one DI.

    UTILIZATION

Settings ultra simple and very effective.
Almost all of the sounds obtained with the overdrive pedal.
    Not need the manual.

    SOUND QUALITY

    Effect of very high quality.
This is the overdrive, it Setur light or strong, it responds well to the attack.
    At all good :-)

    OVERALL OPINION

I used it for a year.
I was never disappointed, always had a good sound, never had a problem.
I sell it now because I have a great tube amp, so no need to pedal for a good overdrive.
    Quality / price ratio excellent.
If I had kept my transistor amp, I would not have sold this pedal.

DigiTech Tone Driver OverdrivePublished on 05/28/09 at 13:07
The Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive is a digital guitar pedal capable of getting a number of different types of overdrive tones. It has a ¼ inch input and two ¼ inch outputs and isn’t a rack mountable piece of gear. It is powered by either a nine volt battery or power supply.

    UTILIZATION

Using the Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive is really easy and anyone who has any experience with any sort of guitar pedal won’t have any troubles at all with this. As long as you understand what each parameter on the pedal does, its manipulation is very simple. The pedal has knobs for level, tone, gain, and morph, providing enough control over your tone.

    SOUND QUALITY

The overall sound quality heard from the Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive is pretty decent, but isn’t anything above average in my opinion. It comes off a bit too tinny and doesn’t have a full enough sound for the type of sound that I usually go for. This being said, the pedal is certainly usable and is fine for messing around and practicing with, I just wouldn’t use it for recording as I have other options that I would rather use that sound better than this pedal. It is suitable for just about any type of music that you would want to use some overdrive with, but works best for punk rock and harder types of rock music. While the sound of the Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive isn’t up to par with other options I have, it has a decent enough tone that it is suitable for beginners and intermediate players.

    OVERALL OPINION

I’ve been using the Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive for a couple of years and can’t really say that I would wholeheartedly recommend this pedal. It isn’t all that bad sounding but doesn’t sound too professional. The price is the best part about this unit as it is dirt cheap that makes it a viable option for players on all budgets. If you are looking for a cheap overdrive pedal, the Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive isn’t amazing, but is fine for the price.
