I just read the article on the Nagra ARES-M. This is a good article and a test performed correctly. Thank you.

For cons, the regulars machines Nagra (IV-S, V, BB + and IIP +), will jump to the wall by reading the sound quality is professional, I propose to test a Nagra PII or BB +, which, for a price (too) high, gives us a preview of real quality Nagra.
This little device is difficult to use for a professional production. The abscence of 48V makes it unusable with a pair of stereo microphone static. The memory blocks us an hour and a half of recording, after you must have a laptop nearby, which is not very practical.
In addition, preamps, even signed Nagra, are far from representative of the knowledge of the brand. I find the audio clips moderately convincing, with the breath, and very few low-mid. You find it good? The sound field is far from simple.
Do the same tests with the IIP, which also has an integrated stereo microphone, and higher sound quality will be obvious.

Not that I do not appreciate the ARES-M, but I think on a scale of sound quality, you must put things in their place, and not to tell the users which is not true. on the other hand, it's nice to have a small machine like this is very convenient, light, etc. .... (But not professional hi hi hi)
Friendly.
