it's a little cool, I reu a week ago and I have experimented on the field with a parable Telinga for recordings of bird songs.
I like its size and light weight, about 900gr. the silent machine book with a handy bag with gussets that latraux protgent connections, a 1Gb card, an adapter and a USB cable.
I used a Nagra III association and for me, a c'tait rve in bandoullire, reliable, solid sound quality Nagra.
I switched to mini-disc and HI-MD given me great satisfaction especially with the possibility to record in PCM.
I made an attempt with a Marantz PMD 660, which drive three days and I did take the device as on the songs of birds, pramplis are not the height.
Report quality price, the components of Nagra are really on top, the sound is perfect, and I think that as is, with good microphones, there is no need to use a prampli as it should do so on some machines cheap.
I would do without this choice hsitation.

I am the acquisition in September 2006.
I use it as part of capturing mood in MS
with a Schoeps MS pair (2 x CMC 6 + capsule Bidi and Cardio).

Its preamps, from the Nagra 5, give me complete satisfaction.
For my part, I do not have "click-click-click" continuously??
On the contrary the signal / noise ratio is very compelling.
Testify in compression tests in post-production on recordings
from the Nagra. Result: the background noise of the place where
I recorded is raised (which makes sense) but no sound inhering in
electronics.

I especially like the range of more than a dozen
with only 6 hours of R6.

All aspects of me away from the Fostex FR2 and Tascam HDP2 who
prémplis of very improvable and energy management
not very good because of their autonomy deplorable.
This should not be overlooked as a unit
pissing everywhere, does not bode well in terms of quality
manufacturing, and suddenly, it affects the quality of the recording.
And then the tascam has no liability for the MS dématriceur headphones.

As against it is true that not everything is rosy on the nagra.
Including ergonomically with the use of the + or - button to adjust the level of entregistrement. Wish I could have two pots all round. Here for once, it's not very Nagra, and I fully understand that this may be a disqualifying fault. I got used but still!

For cons, I love his peak meter, far more accurate than a dB scale F / S.

I would say that in this price range, the Nagra Ares BB + is by far the best, both in recording quality in autonomy. I do not regret my choice.

I used it in making voice-action shooting and surround sound, the type of forest atmosphere with rustling leaves, bird songs, etc. ...

I noticed a kind of digital noise quite annoying, like "click-click-click" continuous and regular basis.

edit: post, I think it comes from a weak modulation input ...

In addition, film-making voice config, it is not very ergonomic as the entry level is by "no" and not with a rotary which would be infinitely more convenient and consistent quality work ...

I did not buy, I borrowed from work, but what is certain is that I would not buy it .... For that price, it is better to invest in an FR2 I think.

It's a shame, seems to have missed his Nagra digital switchover.

Nagra Ares BB + - Purchased in March 2006. Main collection outdoor use, turning without images. MKH40 torque.

For a budget of around 2000 euros the era, if not too many choices with the FR-2 (Low) and magnto Sounddevices (more expensive). I wanted one with excellent magnto pramplis and autonomy.

Assets:
- Autonomy, I turn to the sound recording until three days without recharging the batteries (NiMH 2500 mV).
- The possibility to recharge the batteries in the magnto, or use batteries LR6 (they are everywhere, even in Bolivia!)
APRS-sales service Nagra, the flexibility and ergonomics (small BMOL not incremented not for the level of, masi in my case was not me ESG not too much)

Cons:

- Problem with multiple magnto. First, the beeps numriques appeared when transferring files to the computer via USB. the problem does not occur if we INSRE the CF card into a PCMCIA slot. The SAV t trs comprhensif and sent me a new magnto, just before an emergency dpart for a shoot. Later, on recordings trs low (minimal music), I had to catch up to + 30 dB. I then found a tic-tic rgulier on the left channel. Apparently, a clock that numrique repissait in the analog circuit. I sent back for service that reblind the analog circuit. For over worry! I note that other users have experienced the same problem, apparently even on a series of magnto (change of components, suppliers?).

- Accessories: Each accessory is paid in Nagra, the naked magnto comes with a USB cable, a doc on CD Rom and a CF card 1 GB (or 2 GB if you take lots of accessories!). Must then buy the power transformer (40 !!!), the power supply batteries / battery NimHun, batteries or house, the bag ... also for the bag, I use a Lowepro camera bag well mloins expensive, less convenient but it's true ...

In conclusion, the magnto perform its functions and the quality is to go (APRS screen!). But several concerns that make me think that I would do no such purchase, but I will opt for a plutt Sounddevices. or else the great ending for ERRF Nagra V or VI and why not the rolls: the Cantar
