Sony unveils a high resolution walkman

Sony will introduce at the IFA Conference in Berlin a new portable audio player that supports uncompressed audio formats.

Sony is well-known for its Walkman and innovative portable players (remember the Mini Disc?). In the now-saturated portable audio player market (thanks to the smartphones), they are once again trying to stand out with a new audio and video walkman that can play MP3, but also non compressed and lossless high resolution formats such as WAV, WMA, FLAC, L-PCM, AAC, ALAC, HE-AAC and AIFF.

The NWZ-A17SLV (easy to remember when you’ll go to the store) includes a 64GB memory but you can also store files on a microSD card of up to 192GB.

The player also features a 2.2 white-LED backlit TFT display, a 1/8” headphone output, a USB 2.0 port as well as Bluetooth 2.1 and EDR 2.4GHz wireless technologies.

Regarding the functionality, the NWZ-A17SLV offers various playback modes, such as Normal, Repeat, Shuffle, Shuffle & Repeat, Repeat 1 Song, SensMe Channels) and an FM radio is included (87.5 – 108MHz frequency range).
