The Volca Sample is a portable digital sampler that can be used alone or combined to the other Volca synths. It offers 8 voices of polyphony and you can use any of the 100 built-in samples or add your own via a dedicated iOS App (Volca Sample App, more about it in October). Speaking of apps, you can also use the SyncKontrol app to control the tap tempo and wireless sync with the WIST feature in Korg Gadget for instance.
The Volca Sample includes new features, such as the Analog Isolator, a frequency isolator that alters the sound and creates effects by cutting or adding low or high frequencies. This Isolator is implemented and works as an analog circuit.
The module also features Reverse, Active Step and Step Jump functions to insert and remove step during the sequence playback, Swing, a Song mode with the ability to save 6 patterns x 16 sequences, and you can record and read automations for 11 parameters (sample start point, length, high-pass filter, playback speed, pitch envelope generator depth, attack and decay, amp level, pan, amp envelop generator attack and decay). Last, a digital reverb is included.
The connection panel on the Volca Sample offers an 1/8” headphone output, 1/8” mono Sync I/O and MIDI In. Just like the other Volca models, a speaker is included and it is powered by 6 AA batteries or an adapter.
The Volca Sample will be available in December for the suggested street price of 149€. More info at www.korg.com.
