« Epiphone SG 400 »
Published on 08/30/02 at 15:00I ordered this mail order for £250 from Peter Cookes guitar world in London
I love the colour, its a really nice dark cherry wood effect that changes depending on the light and looks great. I also love the SG shape and the inlay in the neck. It looks fantastic from any angle basically!
It sounds lovely and is a joy to play, especially for the music I play, e.g Black sabbath, Free, Led Zep. Best suited to blues/hard rock
The machine heads are an odd green colour, but that doesnt bother me too much. Id also prefer it if the headstock was the same shape as the Gibson as I dont really like it.
The construction of epiphones is very good indeed, although a little inconsistent. The guitar body and finish is beatiful, the neck and all the fittings look great. The only slight defects is the cheap looking pickup switch and the tone and volume knobs havent been put on with great care.
If your changing from a first guitar, or dont want to dish out/cant afford the proper Gibson this is an excellent step up!
The quality is very good and it sounds brilliant. An excellent step up or addition for the novice or vetran! Its not the "real" Gibson, but its damn close.
