I will not repeat history or the technical specifications of this guitar that are already listed very accurately in the previous opinion.
The SG is the one that is closest to an SG vintage 60s by both coasts (although a bit thicker than the standard big time) by the sound (the Maestro vibrato Vibrola plays for lot).
The violin is really beautiful, the junction sleeve / body is exceptional, the woods used are very beautiful and old varnish give them justice.
The neck is thicker (and slightly larger) than the 60's but thinner than a video today. Piece junction / head is also a bit thicker but without casing as on those 70s . Rosewood is a nice quality and very pleasant to touch.
Personally, I left the original pickups that actually less output gain that classic 57, but have a more original and vintage sound.
CTS potentiometers are of good quality and the ability to filter for tone copies of original bumble bee and are very good, like the rest of the electronics elsewhere.
Maestro vibrato is beautiful and gets the job done without too much detune the guitar, you must find the right setting to fix the rod which is used to operate, if it unscrews all alone in the long run ...
As against this wrong at all, it is the plastics used are very poor quality, toggle switch plate, knobs, truss rod plate, etc.. it looks like the Chinese stuff, the price of the guitar is really abused. We come to regret the large Bakelite years ... Well, personally I've changed everything for good quality parts and it gets better.
The original bridge ABR1 also is not at the top, it vibrates when you play and it is very annoying, it also has a little play on the threaded rods and suddenly intonation take a hit. I changed to a ABR1 and there it is much better TONEPRO, the sustain is improved and harmonics are back!
Finally, when I brought it to my luthier for adjustment, he was forced to return to the saddle as the Grave Mi was a little higher than the other strings! This is a serious instrument that leaves the Gibson Custom Shop in 2700 and sold nine euros.
The case of the custom shop is perfect, sturdy and beautiful.
UTILIZATION
The neck is really nice and fast, rosewood is beautiful and pins button on the binding of the handle (red!) Are beautiful.
The guitar is light and well balanced.
This guitar is easy to play and with a good setup can we have a fairly low action.
The config is pure juice gibson, the pickup selector is perfect and the knobs are neither too hard nor too soft.
The tuners are replicas of vintage Kluson, they do the job, but are not an infernal precision, finally, what is vintage ...
SOUNDS
Then, the sound ...
It is very good, very typical of this kind of guitar. The bridge + maestro is for many, not connected we already feel this side banjo and guitar already sounds great.
Connected is a killer!
In a Marshall JCM 800 is immediately good old Angus remembers our ear microphones are accurate (we discern all notes) and they have this feature soft. We go from the big crunch Hardrock 70's no problem. With a little adjustment I got exactly the same guitar sound on the album "Highway to Hell" AC / DC (see the intro of the song "walk all over you?" Carbon copy!) Again, the bridge + maestro brings this sharp, metallic and wild side that you can hear on the live "if you want blood" of the same Australian group.
In a fender Vibrochamp we pass to period Beatles "Revolver" is slamming and velvety with both always this wooded color, adjusting the volume a little microphones, you can get a very clear sound a bit like Robby Krieger of Doors.On can also approach a funky sound to James Brown playing more on the neck pickup.
What I love is that it is very responsive to the position of the microphones pick, near the bridge that is incisive and harmonics come naturally, near the neck pickup is round and deep, she really answer !
OVERALL OPINION
I have this SG for 2 years, I paid 1000 euros less than the new price of the time and I think it's a fair price.
Although the violin is really successful, some finishes (plastoc!) acastillage and are not worthy of the Gibson custom shop. Especially if you have already laid their hands on a real standard SG 60s.
After some modifications we get a beautiful instrument that sounds (my luthier did not want me to ...)! Because the sound is to go and look is fabulous for lovers ... this is in my opinion one of the best guitars Gibson has been able to produce in the 2000s.
It has a very distinctive and original sound coupled with a comfortable game
Now a standard SG vintage 67'en condition that trading in the 3000/3500 euros and it is really an instrument than this reissue (copy?) Which still costs 2700 euros in stores.
Can not afford the real Grail, I pulled on this one and I was not disappointed with the sound and the violin, but words, I can be resell (with one or two guitars. ..) in order to pay me directly true, because this side "is made of old with new" is a bit boring in the long run, even if the instrument is well within the top 5 current Gibsons Solid Body.
This is why I put "excellent" (once the changes, eh!) And not perfect on this point.
