Advanced Audio CM54

Advanced Audio’s CM54 is a true pencil condenser microphone whose capsule and case design is based on the workhorse AKG 251. It comes with 22mm interchangeable omni and cardiod capsules. The cardiod capsule has a very rugged capsule nose while the omni has a very low profile design much like the venerable KM84.

Circuit

The CM54’s super-clean Class A fet amplifier circuit is coupled to a discrete transformerless Schoeps-type output circuit. The result is a very robust combination that is extremely transparent and has very low self-noise.

Output

The CM54 features a -10dB/-20dB pad and a 75Hz/150Hz low-frequency roll-off, making the CM54 very useful for recording high-transient studio instruments such as drums, percussion, or piano. Its ruggedness makes the CM54 well suited to most live recording applications as well. The CM54 fitted with its omni capsule is becoming an industry favorite on acoustic instruments like guitar, mandolin and banjo.
