The Seventh Circle Audio C84 is a build it yourself preamplifier. If you don’t know about Seventh Circle Audio, they offer unique modules that you can build yourself or order them preassembled. You can only used these modules within a Seventh Circle Audio chassis, so it’s a bit of commitment to start building these preamps, but in the end it’s totally worth it because you’ll save so much money. The C84 is a transformerless preamp that is essentially a Millennia mic preamp.

UTILIZATION

While I can’t speak about putting together the C84 yourself since I haven’t done it, once it’s assembled it’s definitely an easy preamp to use. All of the Seventh Circle Audio preamps will have the same make up since they all fit in the chassis and have the same controls. This includes two switches – one for phantom power and one for phase, and two knobs – one for overall gain and one for a finer trim control. If you want to know more about building this yourself, head over to Seventh Circle Audio where you can find out everything that you need to know. The manual will absolutely be necessary to make this.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the Seventh Circle Audio C84 is about as clean as they come. It’s a Millennia preamp at heart so if you have used any of those before you’ll have a good idea about what I’m talking about when I mean clean. It’s the perfect preamp for acoustic instruments like acoustic guitar, piano, and drum overheads. They are very transparent sounding!

OVERALL OPINION

If you are going to go for a Seventh Circle Audio preamp collection, the C84 needs to own at least one or two spots in your module. It’s amazing that you can have so many different colors in one casing and you won’t want to miss out on having this one in there. It’s about average in price compared to the other Seventh Circle Preamps which is still incredibly cheap. If you’re at all tech savvy, I’d recommend putting together one of these for any studio you’ve got.
