Small hybrid preamp (transistor and lamp), no need to add much on it. There are more detailed descriptions on the net or on this site.
The connection is complete, with XLR input and output. The only downside for me is the switch ON / OFF completely nonexistent. But hey, at this price ... you can not have butter, butter and the money's ass in the dairy option.
UTILIZATION
I use it for recording voice and keyboards. Operation is super simple, the manual will not give any more either ... I must admit. But it's very easy to use either. A knob to adjust the input level, one to add a little heat the tube, and to adjust the output level. Some switches (high-pass filter, 48, etc ...) a meter with LED too small for fine tuning, but it is in the ear ...
The notched knobs, I still. It leaves an impression strong, and it is too.
SOUND QUALITY
200 CHF for, we worth the money! There is no noise, the sound is relatively neutral, no coloration to the big-Joe Meek, maybe a little bit when you put the lamp, but it is very correct. It sounds hot, but I rather think that this is due because of the high frequencies that are very gentle, not aggressive at all. If it was more "clear", it would give an impression of cold, aggressive.
With a micro China, which are often very aggressive in the high end (or Rhode) it will definitely behave perfectly. For my part I use it with a Oktavamod MK-319 PEO, much lighter than the original model, not amended. And again, this little amp sounds awesome. I have nothing to add.
It is clear that one should not make comparisons as the site of Project Studio (or a link on their site) which compares with Avalon. There is still a sacred difference ... no doubt. But in terms of price too. 200 CHF for a small preamp transistors which in my humble opinion sounds much better than its counterparts in other brands that offer products for every lamp a similar price.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for several months, and I am very satisfied. To use a home studio is extra. If we want to give more in a preamp, it is also everything else that follows (microphone, mixer, recorder, musical level ...).
The only thing I would like is a version in a rack 1UE stereo, with a switch ON / OFF, an integrated power supply and for conventional meters. I would be the first to buy one ...
