i use the shure sm 57 for that (is mounted in front of Keith Richrds - live Amp should be pro enough imho ;-))

What's "best" may vary from one session to the next. But the goodl ol' SM-57 is hard to beat. I usually use it on 95% of guitar tracks, and usually alongside another mic (condensor or ribbon)... blending to taste.
