Thread My Lap top doesn't record

I used Audacity to record streaming sound (from realone player) on my desk top, it is working well. I didn't changed any configuartion but it works well. Likewise, I installed the same (AUDACITY) in my lap top with 256 RAM and with same operating system (window XP) but while prsseing record button it shows 2 straight lines and record silance. Can any body help me?

you should check the record settings, im not familiar with that program, but you should be able to set the recording source(in preferences or settings)...right now its probably on the default source if you just installed it on your laptop, which maybe "line-in"
