« I love PBK 7 »

Japan manufacturing, mine in 1989. Basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, floyd Ibanez works nickel after 24 years (!?), Flat end 24 frets, HSH config handle, 1 volume, 1 tone. In short, a Jem.
This is a relatively limited edition as manufactured in 89 and 90. Black marks pyramids pearly whites, white pickups (2 paf pro and single Dimarzio). A large handle in the body cavity dug floyd. The last 4 boxes scalopées. Go see the side of Jemsite for more details.
The Mecha take the agreement, floyd is indestructible. Very soft tone, very musical, great. In habits, I am not using the tone, I have also not put on my Warmoth.
It is relatively heavy (as much as my LP on the scale), but the weight and balance are better distributed and it seems lighter than it actually is.
RAS, well done, finishing blameless, top quality wood (rosewood of the key dark and dense, is gorgeous).
I love the look, it's class and typed both sober and flashy at the same time ... I bought Passion and Warfare in CD when it was released in ... 1990 already ...

UTILIZATION

The handle is a highway. I who used to my LP 57 and 58, I'm not confused (confused Highway -> pun ... not good!!?) Provided. Fine, thin, flat, big bass frets, it makes the technical game, it's funny.
Ergonomics is one of a RG, neither more nor less. Super access to acute. Floyd lets all vaïeries. Easy to pick up hyper, I find it a bit confusing though cincernant sound ... (Suspense. ..)

SOUNDS

C'st my second Vai. I had a Jem 7DY with maple fingerboard, I had to sell to pay for me my number ouane LP in Nimes pitcher 10 years ago. And one, I do not feel, and two, I wanted to bring this LP without the € 2,400 secondhand label. I've never regretted it, but look what this vai, yellow, pink microphones, green and pink pyramids ... brief ...
It sounded exactly like this one, and since then I have good experience of customizing guitars tinkering all my shovels: Electronic, changing pickups, settings (very very important on the soundstage of a skyscraper, perhaps The most important way), replacing the tremolo etc ...

To put it simply, Jem is a super strat but neutral (by which I mean not the special texas, but studio, a clean sound with a bit of chorus, phaser etc ...) in position 2, 3 and 4. Great positions 2 and 4 also splitted microphones + simple. On positions 1 and 5 of the switch, volume, and thickness of the grain (and also gain ...) explode, it seems to have a channel of the amp. It is highly versatile, very distinctive, with very high dynamic progressive volume (original capacity of the knob).

That said, I find on this guitar pro bam not terrible (again) while I appreciate them on other shovels. Here they are soft (or mouxes), not bad in the clear and crunches and interposition in the simple, but some fishing and presence saturated.
Replaced by a set of Evo-Evo2 DP158 dp215F, there is something else. Changing the block floyd a "big" brass and string height adjustment Full-plate vibrato-trussrod ... she lost a tad subtle light crunch it gained potato, amplitude and frequency with distortion.
It sounds loud and clear as you want, reacts like clockwork, very nervous, a lot of harmonics. The DP158 is powerful, very hot, a little digging (HiFi), very flattering, great neck pickup. The 215 is more rock, although medium, treble and high mids mastered compared to 159, tense and well balanced. It is "full" in frequency and is dynamic by lowering the volume and moderating the attack (that is not very well 159 for my taste ... I tried it on this guitar, but I find a little harsh, and less dynamic).

Sound right and a little dry, full of harmonics, suddenly a little hard to play here because sending in all directions ... It requires bosser his game actually there or you can just go with a LP ... The Jem sends what you call it, it amplifies the nuances of your game and your inaccuracies also ...

Definitely, this guitar is very typical in the game it imposes (strong identity, flat handle etc ...), but still very neutral sound. It is up to you depending on the amp, its settings, etc. of your attack ... and it may sound very harsh and metal, or very flexible and stratabound otherwise.
For cons, I find that it does not give easily, and it takes time to master. Not a beginner guitar for Me: Jem is a great guitar but not given as an LP for example, easier to ring with her big huge mids and presence, and forgiving breads.

The JEM, she is nervous, accurate and right, with a range of radically different sounds available with just the fingers ... if you listen Vai in this period (Whitesnake etc ...), we find that character in the game

OVERALL OPINION

I would do this choice? of course!! I love the look, sound, comfort ... and then I dreamed of when I was young. I'm always a fan of Slip of the tongue Whitesnake.
This is a typical hyper guitar, a real instrument anything but shy, you have to buy in knowledge of causes. And then the old guitars sometimes have something in his little dull, a little uptight, it's great, hard to explain ... Connect here in an old marshall 800 with overdrive and chtit to slog your solos, it's magic!!

I think I have been around!
