« Ibanez RG 270-DX »
Published on 11/20/03 at 15:00I bought this guitar at Long & Mcquaide in Toronto. I was looking to upgrade from my crappy first electric guitar and had heard good things about Ibanez. I paid about $450 cdn for the guitar.
I like the guitar a lot. It feels very solid when playing, has a great wine red finish. All the components seem to be high quality, I haven't had any problems with anything yet and I've had this guitar for about 3 years. It's got 2 humbuckers and a single-coil, although i don't use the single-coil much. The neck plays great, good for rhythm or lead playing. The guitar also looks great overall.
The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the Floyd Rose licensed tremolo. I had tuning troubles with my first guitar and wanted to avoid that, so I went with the Floyd. This became a pain pretty quickly; tuning and changing strings takes a fair bit of time. I had someone put a block underneath the bridge so it wou;dn't shift. I'm getting close to trading this guitar in for something without a tremolo, most likely an Ibanez SZ.
Quality and construction are great. Never had any problems with any part of this guitar. The stock pickups are good quality and sound good distorted and clean. No complaints with the guitar itself, I'm just tired of the tremolo.
If your looking to upgrade to a mid-level guitar, this is a great choice. The RG 270-DX feels great in your hands, sounds great, and looks awesome. If the Floyd Rose is your thing I would definitely consider picking up this guitar. If not, you might want to check out one of the other RG models. Great guitar overall.
