Ibanez S1220

The Ibanez S series guitars are a thin bodied strat shaped guitar that feels absolutely wonderful to play due to its light weight yet huge tonal properties. The S-1220 is a Japanese made Prestige S series guitar that features a mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 22 jumbo frets, a unique center inlay, an Edge trem, two humbuckers, one volume, one tone and a five way switch.

UTILIZATION

The S series are some of my favorite guitars made by Ibanez. While they lack two frets compared to the RG series, they tend to feel a little better due to their lighter weight. The neck heel on these is very minimal, so getting to the higher frets is a breeze. The fretwork on the Japanese Prestige models is also great, so no issues there. The Edge tremolo that's in this model is also one of the best floyds on the market. It has no issues with even the most extreme whammy bar action.

SOUNDS

Since the guitar is made out of mahogany, it sounds pretty big, even though it's a thinner body. The biggest problem with these guitars is that the pickups suck. However, once you replace those, you're good to go. I like using the Air Norton in the neck and something like an Evo 2 in the bridge. When you put an Air Norton in the neck, the neck position becomes super fat and absolutely sings for lead tones. The Evo 2 in the bridge helps accentuate the natural frequencies of mahogany along with giving the guitar some amazing harmonics. The five way switch on this guitar also helps make this thing more versatile as you have parallel and split options to choose from.

OVERALL OPINION

If you're on the market for an Ibanez S series, this is going to be one of my top recommendations. Today's S series are made entirely in Indochina, so I highly recommend buying an older one that was made in the original Japanese facilities. I find they're put together better, and I find them to sound a bit better. Just be sure to replace the stock pickups as they're pretty bad. Aside from that, this is an awesome shred machine with huge tone.

What comfort

As for the sound, so here it is clear I have a lot of other Ibanez (no offense to some, to each his own) with different types of microphones (DiMarzio, EMG, Bareknuckle).

None comes close to this guitar in terms of sound.
It sounds like hell, and even empty ...

My style: metal of all kinds.
I play on 5150 and now on Axe FX Ultra.
Frankly, it dislocates. Nothing to add. I love how this guitar sounds.

OVERALL OPINION

It's been 10 years though I have this sword.
All my friends (whether or not scratch) all wanted my tax ...
If one day I had to part with it, I should call them.
Honestly, I do not know if one day I would sell, this guitar: it is a real favorite!

I love +: SOUND!
What I like least: 22 boxes only ... frankly it disturbs me.

The price / quality ratio: bought new for 1150 euros I think.
Given the quality that makes him without + ... as often as you still have to change the pickups (memory, QM1 and QM2's sounded like it was. Without great folly. It was not bad but hey, it holds no comparison to a Drop Sonic and Crunch Lab what .. . we know)

Today, you can find OCCAZ in 500 euros or a little +.

Made in Japan. 22 frets, two humbuckers Ibanez QM2 (bridge) and QM1 (handle). Floyd rose style tremolo, slecteur 5 positions, 1 volume, 1 treble rglage.
Mahogany body, the handle is lime I think, with a mahogany bar in the middle derrire and a rosewood fingerboard, and then a white outline. Available only in polished plutt dark, I find this beautiful guitar.

UTILIZATION

The handle is wizard-like high-speed, rev it enjoyable to play. The key is flat, the handle end is trs (just frle same) and the jumbo frets make it a highway to shredders. And it's beautiful to watch! We regret may be limited to be 22 boxes ...
This guitar is better for turboprofile arodynamique: the body is 1cm thick at the edges, and 4-5cm in the center. So it is great and the junction lgre body / neck is fine trs.
In addition one can make the ququ with vibrato ...
Finally we can apprcier between the jack on top of the body, practice, but given the thickness they had no choice ...

SOUNDS

I spent 7 years playing on it with the microphones QM1 and QM2 origins. He is correct, just go anywhere.
The bridge pickup is good for rock, a little lightweight for the metal. His prcis trs.
In position 2 on a config with two doubles, it's always slamming trs, not specially usable except for the Tower of Power casseroles, or sound a bit "Wayne Krantz" through Eq, but is not a good strat.
In the middle position is trs pleasant, good attack, beautiful harmonics.
4-position of slamming back fender, but lacks body, a little feeble.
5-position rock sound enough mdium acute lack a little bass solo trs good distortion. Fairly neutral and goes all over agreements, arpges, solos, casseroles, all going well but something is missing ...

So I change this DCID microphones for a sound with more characters and a little more output level. And that's it the INTERESTED: This guitar with mahogany body, I set m'tais head: Mahogany = well rounded, warm, with the bass.
Well not at all. As the body end, the mahogany table in the balance is probably handle Rabl. And in fact this guitar and not a little slap. Be careful going up the microphones a little cot acute handle it (like PAF pro) you will get a great guitar funk ... In the lowest amount of microphones medium (like air zone) gives the medium a lot more rock. But in any case is missing the wood for good well-rounded bass.
Cot like bridge: if you are big fan of your rhythm devastating greasy with lots of low mids, still gonna run out of wood. on the other hand to shred the clinical pass nickel.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 8 years. What I like is the versatility of his sound, shape, race, class, and especially its light weight that pleases me well scoliosis ...
But over time I find it lacks wood, and worth it to change the original pickups.
