« Figured top Fusion »
Published on 06/27/11 at 18:22This is one of the higher quality Fusions that were offered during the run of the Professional Series. The guitar features a basswood body with a maple top, a maple neck, an ebony fretboard with binding, 24 extra jumbo frets, HSS configuration with direct mount pickups (ring for the bridge), sharkfin inlays, one volume, one tone and a five way switch.
UTILIZATION
The Fusion Pro was top notch out of all of these in the store. The frets were nicely crowned, but and they were properly leveled. The edges were beveled nice, so moving up and down the neck felt smooth. The neck joint was nice and tight, so no issues there. The floyd was actually replaced with a higher quality original floyd rose on this model, and I highly recommend this mod. This will improve tuning stability and overall tone. It also had a big brass block installed to enhance the sustain even more.
SOUNDS
This guitar had some replacement pickups in it, so I'll be going by those. It had a JB in the bridge with some classic stacks in the neck and middle. The JB in the bridge worked decently, but I prefer other pickups when it comes to this body wood. It could do pretty much any genre, however. The classic stacks were nice and powerful. You could get a very nice lead tone going on, and the split tones were pretty cool too. The guitar was fairly resonant overall, so no big deal there. Overall, the sound was above average from the other Fusions that I played.
OVERALL OPINION
If you're going to look for a Fusion from the Professional Series, this is really the one you should be looking at. It's the highest quality one that I know of off hand, and it was a real tone machine. It also looks killer.
